November Reserve Lines

I recently had a follow up discussion with the company about the November Reserve lines. In my last e-line, I mentioned the request for INV days on Thanksgiving in all bases. Holiday months are complicated on multiple levels. When more open time is at one end of the month, the task of constructing secondary lines becomes more difficult as there are not enough trips throughout the entire month that can be pulled together to build legal lines. Obviously, when the number of secondary lines declines, more flight attendants end up staying on or returning to Reserve status. In addition to that frustration, SAP created a lot of open time the 2 days following Thanksgiving. The company spent quite a bit of time constructing the lines so that the operation was protected on and around Thanksgiving while still applying request for INV days on Thanksgiving Day.

System-wide on Thanksgiving, 171 Reserves will be off, 118 of whom will be INV. The base-by-base breakdown looks like this:

  • BOS- 5 Reserves will have Thanksgiving off, 3 of those will be INV
  • CLT- 61 Reserves will have Thanksgiving off, 39 of those will be INV
  • DCA- 18 Reserves will have Thanksgiving off, 12 of those will be INV
  • LGA- 6 Reserves will have Thanksgiving off, 4 of those will be INV
  • PHL- 81 Reserves will have Thanksgiving off, 60 of those will be INV

This is a significant increase of OFF and INV over Thanksgiving 2008. I will make the same request for December, but the same variables will apply. I will forward this information to you as I have it.

Screen 18 will be showing RST followed by number of days AVL by Friday 10/16/09.
