Crew Accommodations Update August 1, 2008
Hope you are all having a great summer. Your crew accommodations committee
members have completed a few site inspections including: BTV, RDU, PHX & SMF and
we will let you know what the company decided on as soon as they make a
decision. A few issues have been cropping up everyone needs to be aware of:
BUGS! - For all of you calling and reminding me that I promised an "All
about bed bugs issue" I sent it to our MEC Vice President, Buddy Brannon in the
spring for his Newsletter. I'm sure he will be sending it out any day now, once
he has finished moving the MEC office. In the interim, please note that if you
find critters of any kind in your hotel room (not just bed bugs), please, please
call the front desk and insist they send someone up to identify said critters.
Get the name of who you talked to and the name of the person who acknowledges
the bugs. When you file your hotel complaint form, please include this
information as well as the date of your stay and your room number. We have had
hotels claim there were no bugs in the room and it becomes a f/a's word against
theirs. As someone who was victimized by bed bugs on an overnight, I know how
skeeved out I became but, it is crucial to have documentation as proof.
And, speaking of documentation: if you have a complaint about a hotel or
transportation service and you feel it is important enough to write up, please
go to the Hub to Divisions, Inflight, Forms & Publications and fill out a
complaint/comment form. (What was formerly called an OF-310) Please do not put
notes in my mail file, particularly if you don't even take the time to write
your name or contact number/e-mail on the note. Don't get me wrong, I love
reading what looks like chicken scratch on the back of cocktail napkins, little
hotel pads and, my personal favorite, a do not disturb sign but, they do not go
into our data base and so are ultimately a waste of your time and mine since the
company never sees them.
We have been having on-going transportation wait problems. As a reminder our
contract language guarantees us transportation within 20 minutes of the first
call we make to a hotel (not 20 minutes after block-in), on overnights of 10:30
or more and within 10 minutes of the first call we make on overnights of less
than 10:30. If your contract is violated, TAKE A CAB! If the hotel will not pay
for the cab, keep your receipt and turn it in to the company. You will be
reimbursed. Please keep a record of every time you do this and put it on a
hotel/transportation complaint form on the Hub so we can hold the company
responsible for this grievous waste of money.
Finally, for our PHL f/a's who fly late FRA, the company has acknowledged that
the hotel they chose (which was NOT approved by AFA) does not work for our long
overnights and has guaranteed we will not be staying here after this season. We
will be doing another site inspection to FRA in the fall to find a hotel that
can accommodate 2 crews all year as well as the third seasonal crew. This site
inspection may include downtown FRA as (big surprise) they are having difficulty
finding hotels that will bid our business at the rate this company is
willing to pay.
