Crew Accommodations Update January / February
Since the last Crew Accommodations Update in December of 2005 several changes have occurred within the Crew Accommodations Department at US Airways. The former America West Crew Accommodations Manager Kelly Pound replaced the former US Airways Manager Jack Pawlik of the department. Effective February 1st the entire department was moved to Tempe from Pittsburgh with one of the three former US Airways Senior Buyers, Tom Sizemore electing to relocate to the Tempe office. Senior buyer Mary Cousin retired at the end of January with buyer Lou Consentino electing to transfer to another position in Pittsburgh within the company. The new Crew Accommodations Department consists of Manager Kelly Pound, Senior Buyer Tom Sizemore and newly hired Buyer Stephanie Mitchell.
As mentioned in a previous update AFA and ALPA east met with the new Management in early November to in part discuss our concerns over several of the properties that we were moved to October 1st, 2005 by the former US Airways Management at the end of the past Bankruptcy. The company at that meeting asked AFA&ALPA to identify, which properties we felt needed to be addressed first, of which based upon OF-310 submissions by you the membership we did. The first property mentioned was BOS Long followed by LGA Long and then PHX Long and Short of which whose markets are currently being evaluated by the company along with AFA and ALPA for change in the very near future and we will keep you posted on our progress in the coming weeks.
Site Inspections Completions/Decisions
CDG - In the fall of last year the company made a decision to move our crewmembers from the property that had been our incumbent since we began our service to the CDG market in order to capture significant savings on transportation and room cost. The property that was selected was done so solely by the company and without any involvement from AFA or ALPA. It became very clear after being relocated that the temporally facility because of it's small size, would be challenged in terms of being able to accommodate additional crewmembers should the company decide to implement a second flight to the CDG market as they have done so in some years past.
Therefore, a site inspection was performed in this market in early February. Seven properties were visited including the temporary facility with two being recommended by AFA and ALPA. The company chose one of the two AFA and ALPA recommended facilities effective March 1st, 2006 for a three-year term.
AMS - A site inspection was performed in this market in late February. Eleven properties were visited, with six being recommended by AFA and ALPA including the incumbent. A decision is expected by early March.
