Frequently asked Questions

Will my problem really be kept confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is the foundation of the AFA EAP peer counseling. The AFA EAP adheres to Federal and State confidentiality regulations.

What will it cost?
The service is a benefit of your union dues. You pay nothing extra to speak with an EAP Representative or a member of the International EAP Department staff. If you are referred to a mental health professional, your EAP Rep will work with you to use your health plan benefits. The EAP Rep will seek the most affordable solution for your specific situation.

Isn't EAP just for people who have substance abuse and depression problems?
Absolutely not!!! AFA EAP provides resources and references for a broad range of life situations including: relationships, financial/legal, workplace trauma or other work-related issues (insurance questions, harassment, job stress, occupational injury, etc.) and professional standards, in additional to the help we offer with chemical dependency and emotional issues.

United Behavioral Healthcare

On January 1, 2007, our behavioral healthcare administrator has changed from Magellan Behavioral Healthcare to United Behavioral Healthcare. Should you need to access the behavioral healthcare portion of your benefit, a new phone number has been issued. You will also find this number on the back of your newly issued insurance card.

1-800-363-7190

If you or a family member is in treatment which started prior to December 31, 2006, please be sure to check with the provider to make sure they too are on the United Healthcare panel, so that coverage will continue. If you find that problems have occurred with continuing treatment, please either call or e-mail me so that the issue can be immediately addressed.

The Association of Flight Attendants Employee Assistance Program (AFA EAP) is a confidential resource available to the members, their families and their partners to assist with personal, as well a work-related concerns. AFA EAP provides three distinct but interrelated services, including:

1. Assessment, support and resource referral,
2. Advancement of professional standards through conflict resolution, and
3. Response to critical and traumatic incidents.

AFA’s objective in providing these services is to enhance the health, safety and well-being of its union family with the highest quality of peer support available within the EAP industry.
