Dear Members,
Well, here we are . .
. finally. Pinched, pulled, a few pounds lighter but not for the
worse. The uniform fittings are over. Orders have been placed and
yes, shipping now to a front door near you. On behalf of Candi and
me we would like to be the first to say thank you to all of you that
took time out of your busy schedules to be fitted and for the live
daily showing of tantrums and tiaras. Yes, the appointments didn't
always run on time. Yes, some locations were a little small. And
yes, I didn't have to tazer anyone or take them naked from the
dressing room into the hallway of a concourse. We were all very
happy about that last one. You have no idea the kind of book deal I
am going to get out of this. So now what? Well, let me tell you. |
|
First, let me clear up and
inform everyone on the out of control rumor that the company is only
giving each of us $25.00 for alterations. WRONG! NOT TRUE! INCORRECT!
You will be getting a Men's Wearhouse gift card for $25.00 with your
uniform pieces that you can spend any way you would like (i.e., personal
purchase, alterations, or a gift for me). So, this is what the company
will be paying for . . . everything within reason.
Let
me explain. All alterations will be paid up front by you the employee
with reimbursement by the company after you have filed an expense report
with your supervisor which must be accompanied by the original itemized
tailors receipt (remember to keep a copy for your records). Now,
standard alterations can be done without supervisors authorization, but
can be challenged if the expense is deemed "out of line." Example: John
has his four pairs of pants tailored at Men's Wearhouse for $8.00 per
pant for a total of $32.00. Result: Approved. Susan has her four pairs
of pants tailored at Glamour Tailors for $16.00 per pant for a total of
$64.00. Result: Possible challenge and denial of charges based on
unreasonable expenses.
Now,
here is the flip side of the alterations coin. If you have to have
"construction alterations" it MUST
BE pre-approved by your supervisor first. Again, the approval
will be reviewed based on reasonable
expenses and believe me your supervisor will do their homework. I do
want to say that in no way is AFA, Candi, or I specifically promoting
Men's Wearhouse, but keep in mind that they are they parent company of
TwinHill who we have contracted to produce this uniform. So, if their
tailors are telling you that certain alterations need to be done then
you stand to have fewer questions and a faster approval from your
supervisor.
I hope that clears the alteration questions up, but if it doesn't you
know where to find Candi. Oh yeah and me.
Lets
talk returns. The uniform kind that is. When your uniform arrives and
you start dancing around your living room announcing to anyone who can
hear you that you love what you are wearing you suddenly realize that
you have lost weight and your pants are too big and you need to send
them back for another size. Well, you will take out the packing slip
that arrived with your uniform and follow the
instructions located on the back. Now when you send those pants back you
will have to pay for the return however you will be reimbursed by the
company after you file an expense report with the original receipt
(remember to keep a copy for your records). If you have questions about
returning items you can contact Candi, myself, your supervisor or the
TwinHill customer service department.
Candi and I would like to take this moment to address the recent rise of
a very misguided idea by a few fellow flight attendants to prove a point
to the company by not wearing the new uniform on January 28 or any day
there after. The company can issue a change in uniform at any time. Upon
doing so AFA would be notified and the current working agreement
language would be addressed and applied. It's that simple.
Although a failure to wear your uniform does not fall under
dependability issues it is a violation of policy and procedures, which
falls under the code and conduct rules, and carries its own levels of
discipline.
We are all frustrated with many things. However, refusing to wear your
uniform could result in disciplinary actions that could prove to have an
adverse financial impact. I think with all the stress related items in
our lives this is one item that we can personally avoid.
More updates and information coming as we get closer to the launch date
of January 28, 2008. As the December holidays approach Candi and I would
like to express our sincerest joy and good cheer to each of you through
this year and the next. On behalf of Candi and me thanks for being
informed and we look forward to chatting with you again soon.
Happy
Holidays!
