Dear Members,
From The Hanger
December is upon us and the holiday season is in full swing. Once again holiday attire is permitted but as always there are guidelines in wearing it. They are as follows:
For Men: Holiday Tie with appropriate design
For Women: Holiday pin of an appropriate size and holiday earrings consistent with current guidelines.
If you have a question regarding your holiday attire please refer to guidelines in your supervisors office. |
Uniform Correction
The issue addressed by "Uniform infractions can lead to dependability status" in the last Uniform Newsletter was in error - this is not a dependability issue but rather a violation of the work and conduct rules, that could potentially lead to disciplinary action. We apologize for the inaccuracy.
Safe Flying,

All I want for Christmas is a NEW UNIFORM! As many of you who read our previous e-line the deadline for submission of uniform samples was November 30. Candi and I had planned to be in Phoenix on December 07/08 to review the samples that are being provided by the
competing vendors. However, the meeting has been postponed until January because a few of the senior management members on the committee were unable to attend. We will keep you posted on any change or information as it becomes available. As a side note, Candi and I would like to thank all of you for the many emails and most of all your words of support.
And now for the Myth Buster. We have received emails asking us about a fictitious memo/CBS Message that states the
men's tie and the women's tab tie are no longer required to be worn. Well, I hate to be the Grinch, but this is only a myth. Policy states that for men you must wear the company-authorized tie at all times while in uniform and for women the company-authorized tab tie at all time while in uniform. There is no exception. This information is located in the Impressions of Excellence handbook Flight Attendant section 3.12. If you do not have this handbook please feel free to stop by your friendly supervisors office (ok stop laughing) to get a copy. Uniform infractions can lead to dependability status and no one wants to start off a new year with a cloud over their head. Make an early New Years resolution to be uniform compliant today. Thanks for helping us help you.
This is the part were we take questions from the audience.
First question: Can I wear my red ribbon in honor of AIDS Awareness month?
Answer: Unfortunately no. The rainbow of ribbons supporting specific causes, such as red for AIDS, yellow for support of troops, and pink for Breast Cancer just to name a few, can be seen as a political statement sanctioned by the company and could bring unwarranted legal issues. Although these causes and others should be recognized we cannot do so on our uniforms. Thanks for your question.
Question Two: Is it true that there are guidelines about coloring my hair?
Answer: Yes, it is true. It's on the back of the box. Just kidding! Although I personally have no hair, the guidelines in the Impressions of Excellence Flight Attendant section 4.3 states- You may color your hair using a natural shade that compliments your skin tone. Of course, make sure to maintain a good color to avoid brassy tones, exposed roots, discolored ends, and unnatural looking color. If you dye, tint, bleach, rinse, color-blend, frost, or streak the result must maintain a conservative appearance. High-contrast or extreme color combinations must be not be worn. Thank you for your question.
As we say goodbye to 2005 and 2006 greets us Candi and I would like to thank all of you for your enduring spirit and professionalism through a very tumultuous time in our careers. Over the next few days and months we will be saying goodbye to dear friends who have become family over the years as people retire or move on to a new beginning and saying hello to a whole new family of friendships just waiting to be discovered. May this holiday season and the up coming New Year bring you and yours happiness, health and prosperity. Candi and I wish you all the very best. Joy of the Season to all of you.
