Safety On Board

August 18, 2006

Dear Members,

Upcoming Changes

Along with the many changes with the USAirways/America West merger, the AFA safety committee has also had some changes as well. After 20 years of dedication to flight attendant safety, Nancy Gilmer-MEC Safety Chair resigned her position with AFA and USAirways. Our new MEC Safety Chair is Barrington Johnson. Barrington has been flying for 24 years in CLT. He has been the local safety chair there since 1993. Above all he has a great relationship with the company and the FAA personnel. We look forward to many years of active service from him.
If you are involved in an A/C Emergency

If you are involved in an A/C emergency - i.e.: (decompression, evacuation, severe turbulence, etc.) please contact Deborah McCormick-MEC EAP Chair as soon as possible. Her contact number is: (401) 225-1459 (cell). She will in turn contact the appropriate committee members to give you the assistance you need. Later this fall a new CIRP card will be introduced with all the updated contact information. Your AFA Safety committee is directly coordinated with EAP to offer the support you might require. Please use the numbers found on the card for critical incidents only. Your base Safety Chairs may be contacted through these numbers:

Safety, Health & Security Issues

The safety and health committee is dedicated to working with you to maintain and improve flight attendant safety, security and health. In our working environment, it can be challenging to keep up with current in-flight Policies and Procedures (P&P). While flying, our committee members are often asked to clarify safety issues. The information provided on the website and safety newsletters will address your questions and concerns. The latest safety newsletter will be in your base by September. You will also be able to download it through this website. Check back often, as news and information will be updated on a regular basis.
