Safety On Board

June 8, 2008

Dear Members,

AFA Air Safety, Health, and Security (ASHS)-Critical Incident Notification to AFA

As we move into the second year of the US Airways merger both US Airways East and West Air Safety, Health, and Security Chairpersons are extremely concerned that flight attendants are NOT contacting AFA after any Critical Incident they may have experienced while on duty.

While we are still operating under separate contracts the company is required to notify AFA of any Critical Incident occurring in the system. The company is not complying with the respective sections of each contract in many instances. AFA is structured to respond to critical incident and to help represent, support, and guide our members. Immediately following any critical incident AFA can offer diffusing and debriefing support thru our EAP program.

In any subsequent interviews or investigations AFA Air Safety, Health, and Security representatives are trained to support our members in this process. If there is any subsequent disciplinary action all areas of AFA can join to assist any Grievance procedures.

The Company and the FAA fully recognize the role of AFA in any critical incident and will work with your representatives in the member's best interest. AFA is strongly advising that it is in your best interest to always notify AFA Air Safety, Health, and Security after you are involved in any type of critical incident onboard the aircraft or while on duty.
