Local 70 Reserve Update

Today's Topics:

  • Sick on Contact (SOC) and Late Sick Call

  • Reserve out of Base (ROB)
  • Rest Period
As we are fast approaching the holiday season I wanted to send out a few reminders! Also, the company has published a new Reserve Handbook* so pick up your copy today in the Crew Room!

Sick on Contact (SOC) and Late Sick Call

A SOC is when a flight attendant fails to notify crew scheduling that he/she is sick prior to being contacted. Also, if you call in sick after picking up your trip, one of two things will occur: First, if the time of the sick call is more than two hours from the time of check-in, you will marked as sick. Second, if the time of the sick call is within two (2) hours from the time of your check-in, you will be marked with a Late Sick Call (LSC). Sick on Contact and Late Sick Call are both dependability events. Absent mitigating circumstances, both infractions will remain in your file for one (1) year.

Reserve out of Base (ROB)

A flight attendant is considered to be ROB if he/she is not one hour and thirty minutes (1:30) travelling time, given normal surface transportation conditions to the airport. Being a ROB may be considered both a dependability event and a conduct infraction. Please be aware that the company can research your non-revenue travel records at any time.

Coverage of Late Opening Trips/Quick Calls. If a trip remains uncovered 2 hours prior to departure or becomes available within 2 hours before scheduled departure time the company shall assign the trip in accordance with section 11.E.
  • 1. An OPR flight attendant if one is on duty.
  • 2. The most senior RSV flight attendant who has volunteered for a quick call and is on duty or made him/herself available for duty.
  • 3. The most junior RSV flight attendant who is available for the days the trip is scheduled to operate.
  • 4. The most junior RSV flight attendant on duty with the least number of days off disrupted
  • 5. Please refer to Section 11.E on page 11-12 of the contract.

Rest Period

Uninterrupted domicile rest is a rest period free from all duty including telephone contact. Contractual uninterrupted rest is 8+30 after checking out (block in plus debrief) from a trip or the completion of an OPR assignment. Standard FAR uninterrupted rest is 9+00 check out to check in. The company has changed it procedures with regard to the Standard FAR rest period requirements. Crew Scheduling can attempt to contact the flight attendant upon completion of the contractual 8+30 rest period, but you don't have to answer your phone until the Standard FAR 9+00 uninterrupted rest period has been completed.

There are times when FAR Compensatory Rest of 10 hours check out to check in is required. In such a case Crew Scheduling can attempt to contact a flight attendant after the Contractual uninterrupted rest of 8+30 has expired but you don't have to answer your phone until the completion of the FAR Compensatory Rest Period has been completed.

CATCREW option #1 will alert you to the following information:

Two rest periods will be displayed at the completion of your trip. The first rest will reflect the end of the 8+30 uninterrupted rest, the second rest displayed is the time you are required to be available for contact, i.e., the end of your FAR Rest.

Please be familiar with this as we are coming up to the holiday season. As we all remember what happened last year with Side Letter 13 and scheduling interrupting rest periods they CANNOT invoke Side Letter 13 as the FAR supersedes this letter.

You may elect your maximum home domicile rest of 10+15 domestic or 16+00 international, but you must notify scheduling of your intent. However, you still must be available to answer your phone at 9+00 standard rest of 10+00 compensatory rest period per the FAR. If you don't have a copy of a contract you can pick one up at the B-6 Crew Service Center or the A West crew room.
