Local 70 Reserve Update
September 29, 2005

Issues:

  • RSV's Picking Up ETB Trips Downline
  • RSV's Being Rescheduled from ETB Trips
  • Non-LOD/O's Awarded LOD/O Trips
  • RSV Release After Trip Award via Automated Response

RSV'S & ETB
Following several instances of RSV's being denied the ability to meet a trip that contains a deadhead on the first leg from the ETB down line, I have clarified the policy with scheduling. Normally RSV F/A's are prohibited from meeting such trips since they are a reserve and not allowed to meet trips "down line". With the introduction of the ETB this created new circumstances. For all intense purposes a RSV F/A picking up time on the ETB becomes an "ETR" and basically equates to the F/A being a blockholder for that period of time. The same privilege of meeting a trip down line extended to a blockholder applies to the RSV. Scheduling has been informed of this policy. If you have any problems with picking up trips with a deadhead in the first leg please call your local office so we can address it.

On the same note, F/A's on an ETB trip should not be removed by scheduling during short coverage just because they are considered a reserve. They have given up their off day for that specific pairing and taken on the role of blockholder, therefore they should be treated as such per our contact. Scheduling agrees with this language and we seem to all be on the same page.

LOD/O TRIPS
Last week there were instances in which LOD/O's were skipped for processing and thanks to prompt notification, scheduling did acknowledge the error. They are working to ensure it doesn't happen going forward. There was also an instance of a LODO position being awarded to a NON-LOD/O F/A. While this practice is allowable per our contract in certain circumstances, there were other LOD/O's AVL that were sitting restricted. Only after all LOD/O qualified RSV F/A's are used can a NON-LOD/O F/A be awarded a LOD/O position. (See Below) If you a participant in the LOD/O program please make sure you check your screen to ensure you don't have a claim.

Section 13.E.3

"Open LOD/O flying will be covered first by a flight attendant qualified in appropriate LOD/O who has indicated on the daily Availability/Improvement List a preference for such trips in accordance with Section 9.D. In the event open LOD/O flying is not covered by such a flight attendant, the trip will be offered to the appropriate LOD/O qualified reserve flight attendant. In the event the trip still remains uncovered, it will be assigned in reverse order of seniority to LOD/O flight attendants. If such trip still remains uncovered, it will be awarded or assigned to the appropriate non-LOD/O flight attendant."

Release After Trips Award via Voice Response Line

If you are awarded a trip from Future Scheduling and you sign in via the voice response line (800-438-3221), you are RELEASED until check in. Release of RSV's after trip assignment is automatic now unless otherwise advised by the scheduler and the director of scheduling or is designee has declared irregular operations. So, even if irregular ops have been declared and you sign in via the voice response line - you are released.
