Local 70 Reserve Update

Today's Topics:

  • Domicile Rest Preceding or Following a Transoceanic Segment
  • Am I released?
  • Input Forms

We are fully aware of the August lines. Council 70 officers and MEC Reserve Chair Sherri Baker went into a detailed discussion with the company over the RSV lines for August. AFA has been told that the union would be able to review the reserve lines going forward so that we can try to prevent this from happening again. There is no contractual obligation to build RSV lines with more than two days off, however past practice has shown us that the company is able to build RSV lines with more than 3 or 4 days off. Please review Section 11-7 and 11-8 of your contract.

RESERVE OUT OF BASE

Q: What happens if I’m caught out of base while on duty?

A:

Step 1 : You will be informed to contact your supervisor immediately.
Step 2 : You will be informed that you are required to attend a mandatory meeting.
Note (please respond immediately!)
Step 3 : You may be issued a reserve out of base letter and counseled.

Please be aware that the company may pull your travel records, as far back as the past 12 months, if you incur any of the following: NCT, Sick on Contact, No Show, Late Check In, Unable to Commute, Failure to Attend Training, etc,. If you are caught out of base for a second time, you may be subject to termination.

Domicile Rest Preceding or Following a Transoceanic Segment:

Contract 12-3: A reserve in his/ her domicile may elect to have an off duty period of 16:00 actual hours, block to block, preceding and following an on- duty period which contains a transoceanic flight segment.

Ex: I complete a.m. OPR 0515-0915. At 2200 I am quick called for LGW for a re- crew. I may elect to have 16:00 hours off block to block. I am not required to accept this trip.

Note: After 8+30 of uninterrupted rest you can always be contacted.

Q: I returned from LGW today and they want me to take a trip out tomorrow that doesn’t give me a 16 hr. off-duty period. Can they do this?

A:
No.

Q: What if I left a list of trips for tomorrow that does not provide me with a rest period of 16+00 hours?

A:
Then you’ve waived your 16 hrs. off-duty period.

Q & A

Q: AM I RELEASED?

A:
Except in the case of Irregular Operations which can only be declared by the Director of Crew Scheduling or his/her designee, reserves will be released from duty until check-in upon pairing award or assignment. However, a reserve holding an award or assignment from Future Crew Scheduling may elect to remain on call (ROC) for an award or assignment from Daily Crew Scheduling. (Contract: 11-11 4.) An irregular operation is an event beyond the control of the Company such as weather or extended ground delays. Irregular operations may cause a short staffing situation but short staffing in and of itself should not cause Irregular Operations to be declared. Please contact the local office to report instances where scheduling does not release you "due to coverage".

Q: How do I report an incident with a scheduler/scheduling?

A:
We ask that you write this up using the forms provided to you on the www.afausairways.org web site.
1: Go to www.afausairways.org
2: Click INPUT forms (left hand side in the block box)
3: Click Save the Conversation or Scheduling
4: Click SUBMIT

The Input Forms are sent to your local AFA office and reviewed by your elected officers. They may also be sent to company management for resolution. Please include as many facts as possible. This tool was designed to help assist with communication as well as contract violations.

CREW ROOM VISIT COMING SOON!
