Local 70 Reserve Update
August 9th, 2005
Your Local 70 Council Representatives understand it's extremely important to keep the communication lines open, while addressing questions and concerns on all fronts. We realize that the RSV's are being hit hard and while there is no magic wand to fix every issue, I hope we can start to make things a little better by informing you of you're contractual rights. We can make scheduling work within the bounds of our contract. I live under this RSV system daily and know just how hard it's been. We will be sending out E-lines frequently on a wide variety of issues and I hope these E-lines from your local will begin to help. We are working on issues such as:
-- LOD/O's being "restricted" only to be quick called or assigned later
-- Clarifying the jumpseat policy with agents and flight attendants
-- Implementing a CATS screen that shows order for quick call
-- Clarifying with scheduling how they come up with numbers for the recorded update regarding AVL reserves.
These are just a few items myself and your local officers are working on and we ask for your patience. We also ask that you please email or call your local office with concerns or questions so we can add them to list and clarify it with the rest of our flying partners via E-line.
RSV Hot Topic
We are asking that all RSV's please familiarize yourselves with Section 12.B.3.b of the contract regarding your international rest options. There are numerous reports of flight attendants being assigned international trips after coming in off red eyes or all-nighters. This contact provision is here to protect you in just these types of circumstances however; it's up to the Flight Attendant to exercise their right when contacted for your 16 hours of "BLOCK to BLOCK" rest. The same provision applies to when coming off an international pairing. Please copy this important section and be ready to quote it to the scheduler in the event this happens to you.
Section 12.B.3.b:
"Notwithstanding Paragraph B.3.a. above, a reserve flight attendant in his/her domicile may elect to have an off-duty period of sixteen (16:00) actual hours, block to block, preceding and following an on-duty period which contains a transoceanic flight segment."
For example:
Josh comes in off a Red Eye pairing on Thursday at 06:00. He is then contacted by scheduling at 14:30 pm to fly Frankfurt departing at 18:00 the same day. While Josh has had his 10:15 in base rest, he has not had his 16 hours of "block to block" rest preceding a transoceanic flight segment. Josh may still accept the trip but that is his option and he may not be forced on this trip.
Fly safe and please keep your AFA local informed as to issues you would like to see addressed. We will investigate and get back to you as soon as possible.
In Solidarity,
Michael Elias
