Local 70 Reserve Update

Today's Topics:

JULY 2009
As you know, our busiest time of year as Reserves is well underway.  In this edition, we would like to touch on a few important contractual issues and highlight some recent improvements.

ADDITION TO OPTION 18
Due to the persistency of AFA and the Reserve Committees, the company has finally implemented a LOD/O designator in Option 18 of CATCREW.  An “L” appearing in the column to the right of a Reserve’s name indicates that he/she is a LOD/O Flight Attendant.  This enhancement should help non-LOD/O Reserves better calculate your actual “AVL number”.

OPR DUTY INFORMATION
Keep in mind, while sitting any OPR shift, our Contract states that if you are assigned a pairing, such pairing must depart no later than six (6:00) hours from the commencement of your OPR duty.
Also, your Council 70 Reserve Committee has addressed your complaints regarding the location of the OPR phone in the Terminal “B” Crew Room.  We are pleased to announce that a new cordless OPR phone has just been installed in the lounge/lunch room area.  The phone is located near the leather chairs, just beneath the windows.  This will allow Reserves sitting OPR duty to relax in the lounge without fear of missing a call from scheduling.
The Reserve Committee would like to thank Sue Stevens, Manager of Domestic Operations, for hearing our concerns and working with us to reach an amicable solution.

RESERVE OUT OF BASE
It is imperative that while on duty (AVL), you are in base.  A Reserve is considered to be “out of base” if he/she is not within one hour and thirty minutes (1:30) traveling time, (by surface transportation) of the airport.  Being “out of base” is a direct violation of Flight Attendant Work and Conduct Rule 31.  Please keep in mind that the company can conduct an audit of your non-revenue travel history on US Airways and other carriers.

UPCOMING RESERVE MEETING
AFA and the CLT LEC are hosting a system-wide reserve meeting on Monday, July 27, 2009 from 1000 until 1300 at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.  The meeting will be held in the upper level auditorium, above the food court, between terminals B and C.  This meeting is being held in CLT because this date coincides with the AFA Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) – both East and West AFA negotiators – meeting with the company representatives for contract negotiations during that week in CLT.
Any Member in good standing is encouraged to attend.  If you are unable to attend, you may email your Reserve questions and concerns to:  dsampey@afausairways.org or rwright@afausairways.org and your LEC will present these issues on your behalf during the meeting.

In Solidarity,

Dan Sampey, Reserve Chair
