As we enter the busiest time of year for our Reserve Flight Attendants, we would like to use this issue to touch on several important Reserve topics: QUICK CALLS, OPR DUTY, UNION REPRESENTATION and PROTECTING YOUR CONTRACTUAL RIGHTS. Print a copy of this E-Line to carry with you and share with your colleagues.

INVOLUNTARY QUICK CALLS
Our Contract states, “Actual expenses for round trip cab transportation within a sixty minute(:60) radius of the airport will be allowed when substantiated by appropriate receipts when a flight attendant is called to duty with less than two (2:00) hours’ notice prior to scheduled departure of a flight. In lieu of cab transportation, the Company will reimburse reasonable expenses for short-term parking (i.e., daily parking if available; if not available, hourly parking).” Section 4-2 lines 40-45 and section 4-3, lines 1-2. Bottom line: when involuntarily “quick called”, our Contract allows you to take cab transportation (following the Contractual provisions) to and from the airport or to utilize the short-term parking facilities, for which you will be reimbursed. Save your receipts (keep a copy for your records) and immediately file a Crew Expense Report. The form is available in each crew room and also located on The Hub. Make sure to complete the form and attach your original receipts per the instructions within 90 days of the event.

VOLUNTARY QUICK CALLS
Section 11-13, lines 22-27 of our Contract allow a Reserve Flight Attendant to voluntarily make him/herself available for a quick call. When doing so, such reserve may limit his/her quick call availability to pairings that depart within the morning and/or afternoon and/or evening parameters. Additionally, you may advise crew scheduling whether or not you will exceed thirty/thirty five (30/35) in seven (7) days. Bottom line: if volunteering for a “quick call”, utilize these options if you wish to restrict your quick call to a specific time of day. Additionally, if volunteering to fly (AVV) on OFF or INV days you may leave a list of trips or parameters, subject to the provisions in section 11-13 lines 29-44 and section 11-14 lines 1-23.

QUICK CALLED FOR OPR?
Our Contract states, “A Reserve shall be given no less than two (2:00) hours notice to report to the airport for OPR Duty.” Section 11-17, lines 29-30. Bottom line: you CANNOT be “quick called” for OPR duty. Your four (4) hour OPR shift will commence upon your arrival at the airport two (2:00) hours after receiving your assignment from Scheduling. If you have received a late check-in or Scheduling attempts to quick call you for OPR duty, PLEASE contact your LEC Reserve Committee with as many details as possible.

WHILE SITTING OPR DUTY
You must be available for immediate contact either by the crew room phone or your mobile phone. If using your mobile phone for contact, you must answer upon first contact by Scheduling. The 15 minute call-back does NOT apply while sitting OPR duty. If you cannot be reached immediately, Scheduling may issue you a “No Contact” (NCT), which may subject you to disciplinary action by your Supervisor.

PUBLISHED OPR PAIRINGS
Regardless of how it appears in CATCREW, all OPR shifts are four (4:00) hours in duration. There is NO fifteen (:15) minute debriefing. Please reference the chart below for the current published Philadelphia OPR shifts:

PAIRING # ON DUTY OFF DUTY
10405 0515 0915
10408 0800 1200
10412 1200 1600
10416 1600 2000
10420 2000 0000

MANDATORY MEETING?
If notified of a mandatory meeting by your Supervisor, you are entitled to be accompanied by a Union Representative. No matter what the purpose of the meeting, we do not recommend attending without Union Representation. Please notify a member of your Reserve Committee or the Council 70 office as soon as possible so that an AFA Representative may be assigned to your meeting. Please be prepared to provide the following information: your name, payroll number, date and time of your meeting, your Supervisor’s name and the purpose of the meeting.

WEAR IT WITH PRIDE
As a proud Union member, you should wear your AFA pin on the outer-most garment of your uniform at all times while on duty. If you need an AFA pin, please contact your Reserve Committee or the Council 70 office. Wear your AFA insignia as a sign of “Union Pride” and Flight Attendant SOLIDARITY!

CARRY IT WITH PRIDE
To help protect your Contractual rights, all Flight Attendants should carry a current copy of our Collective Bargaining Agreement (Contract). Paying special attention to Section 11 (Reserve Duty), Section 10 (Hours of Service) and Section 9 (Scheduling) will help answer many of your most frequently asked questions. If still in doubt, after reviewing your Contract, please contact your Reserve Committee or Council 70 office for clarification. Copies of the current Contract are available in the Crew Service Centers at both terminals A-West and B. Please ask the Administrative Representative for a copy. Our Contract is also available online at www.afausairways.org. Simply click on the “Contract Online” link located in the upper-left corner. This will allow you to view the entire Contract or to search by Keywords. All Members in good standing should soon receive their new AFA Membership Cards via US Mail. This new card will include important AFA and emergency contact information. The card also entitles you to many benefits and discounts only available to Union Members. Carry your new card with PRIDE!

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email or call your LEC Reserve Committee. We are here to support the Reserve Flight Attendants in Philadelphia by upholding the current Contractual protections and advocating on your behalf for future improvements. We wish you safe and pleasant travels.

In Solidarity,
