EVENING OPR SHIFT

As we enter the seasonal flying time of year in PHL, I wanted to take a minute and go over a few reminders. As we all remember the summer of 2007 and most recently this past winter, there have been many quick calls after the 4pm OPR shift concluded. Myself and the Council 70 office had received phone calls and emails from concerned reserves regarding quick calls, especially after 8pm.

In a recent conference call with the company, Council 70 asked the company for a 8pm OPR shift. John Petronzi, Manager of F/A Crew Scheduling, granted this request. This OPR shift will be staffed with 4 flight attendants just like the other OPR shifts. The pairing number is 10420 and it began on May 2. Please remember that when sitting OPR you must be available for a minimum of 3 duty periods and legal for at least 18 block hours during those three days. Also, when sitting on any OPR shift and assigned a pairing, that pairing must depart no later than 6 hours from when your OPR shift commenced.

We are also aware of the number of out of base trips that PHL reserves have been flying. We are watching this closely. As of this time, the staffing levels in all bases are adequate, we are told, so we shouldn’t be seeing mass out of base trip assignments like we had in March and April. We will keep asking about staffing levels each month and will continue to ask the company for TDY if there is in adequate staffing projected, even if it is for one week. Please remember that the company has every right to assign out-of-domicile single pairing assignments per section 11-23, 6 of the f/a contract. Also remember that your deadheads to/from other domiciles to work these trips are paid above your guarantee.

INTERNATIONAL REST

Last summer, there was some confusion on the rest for reserves coming off of an International duty period. A reserve in his/her domicile may elect to have an off duty period of 16 hours block to block, preceding and following an on duty period which contains a transoceanic flight segment. If you want to request the 16 hours rest, you can notify crew scheduling of this request when you land OR when your FAR rest requirement is up. If you look at Option 1 in CATCREW, this is a good guide to help you know when scheduling can call you. Based on the contract time, it is your option to answer and based on the FAR time it is your required time to be available.

A FEW FYIs
If you call in sick and scheduling doesn’t reach your seniority, they will not deduct the 3+30 from your sick bank.

Memorial Day is Monday, May 25. This is one of three days that qualify for Holiday Pay (Section 3-7 of your contract) along with December 25 and January 1.

Double-check your ID to make sure it has not expired. It no longer expires on your birthday.
