  • A Message from your Interim Officers

Dear PHL Flight Attendants,

On November 30, 2006, the MEC Council office accepted the resignations and the last day of service of your local AFA Council 70 officers. With respect we thank them for their service and time that they committed to AFA and to the Flight Attendants of Philadelphia.

On December 01, 2006, the MEC Council appointed interim officers. It is with great pleasure that we introduce them to you.

Hello everyone. My name is Brian Morgan. I am currently the Interim LEC President of Council 70. Many of you know me as the Co-Chair of the MEC Uniform Committee. Yes, I am the guy who writes the "From the Hanger" e-lines. I have served as the local LEC Uniform Chair in Philadelphia for 11 years and have also served under various LEC council officers as personal staff. I have worked for US Airways since 1994 based in Philadelphia. I have worked under two reserve programs including the current system (do I really need to make a comment here) and was a reserve Flight Attendant for 11 years both on domestic and international service. I flew on the trans - Atlantic division for six years until the fence was dissolved and currently I am listed as a secondary line holder. I am a resident of Philadelphia residing in South Philly (YO!). It is my honor to represent the Flight Attendants of Philadelphia. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible and wish to remind you that our door is always open.

Hello. My name is Kim Kaswinkel. I am the Interim LEC Vice President of Council 70. I am a 19-year Flight Attendant and having spent 18 months on reserve in PIT on this reserve system I have a deep appreciation for those that are trying to make a living on 73 hours. Reserve issues are a high priority for me with regards to the heavy financial burden this reserve system has placed on our hard working Flight Attendants. I have a full understanding of the language and interpretation of the current working agreement. My background with AFA consists of working on various committees. I have severed on the reserve committee in PIT and currently hold the Legislative Affairs Chair for Local 70. I worked with AFA International doing lobbying work on the Leave All Blades Behind Act and NWA outsourcing Flight Attendants and Foreign Ownership of Domestic Carriers. One of my proudest moments was working on the Organizing Campaign for North West Airlines. It is my belief that the union should work for the membership as well as the membership work for its union. Together we can accomplish great things. I look forward to working with all of you.

Hello. My name is Joshua Freeze. I am the Interim LEC Secretary of Council 70. As the Junior member of the office with a hire date of June 2000 I may seem green, but have come to the table with a long background in union work. I have volunteered for various council 70 union actions and was a member of the AFA Organizing team for Delta Airlines in 2000. Some of my other union works consist of being a former member of the Amalgamated Transit Union of which I held the positions of President, Vice President and Secretary during my tenure. While with the transit union I served on two contract negotiating committees and led the mobilization effort that won major contract gains. As a Us Airways Flight Attendant I have worked both as a domestic flight attendant and on trans - Atlantic as a German LOD/O. In the fall of 2001 I was off for a year on a voluntary furlough and then involuntarily furloughed for 3 ½ years. I was recalled to mainline in June 2006. I have spent my career here at US Airways on reserve so I am very familiar with the current system and the hardships it presents. Stop in the office anytime or look for me in the crew room. I look forward to meeting you soon.

We would like to extend our thanks to those of you that have already expressed your words of encouragement and say to those who are holding a "wait and see" approach that we understand there is a great indifference toward AFA and the unfortunate actions that took place in this office. Our goal is to bring integrity and your faith back to Council 70. We are committed to working with every Flight Attendant and believe that together we can achieve great things.

Thank you for your time.

In Solidarity,

Brian Morgan, Interim LEC President
Kim Kaswinkel Interim LEC Vice President
Joshua Freeze Interim LEC Secretary
