  • Low Blocks and VFLR

Dear PHL Flight Attendants,

The Company has put out the following CBS message about Low Block for flights cancelled due to the hurricanes. Be sure and document everything, in case you end up with a Low Block and cannot or do not wish to make up the time.

Also, I hear a lot of rumblings about furloughs. The Company still owes us 323 VLFR's for next year. According to our contract, they have from December 2, 2005 until December 1, 2006 to grant those. Due to the loss of aircraft from now until February 2006 and the returns of those on Voluntary Furlough, we anticipate the Company will offer those VFLR's sometime in the first few months of 2006. But remember, this is just a guess and we do not know anything for sure. Anything you hear about Involuntary Furlough's is pure speculation on the part of the person discussing it. The Company has not told us anything and it is not productive to spread rumors that cause alarm.

In this time of great changes coming, I ask you all to stay informed. Help us keep all US flight attendants informed. Copy e-lines and carry them with you, encourage your co-workers to sign up on the AFAUSAIRWAYS.org website. Read the crew room AFA bulletin boards. Each time you check in for a trip, check our boards. STOP RUMORS IN THEIR TRACKS!
If you have a question, call the Local and ask, we'll be happy to answer all your questions. And please, pass the correct information around.

Subject: Low Blk due to CXL

If you are unable to meet your flying obligation as a result of losing time due to the cancellation of scheduled flights to Cancun or Cozumel during the month of October, November and/or December, you will not be held accountable for low hours. This provision is an exception to the current contract language and is only applicable to flight attendants awarded such line/s of flying via Primary, Secondary, Secondary Augmentation and/or SAP. If possible, the expectation is that you should make an attempt to fly back the lost time by either utilizing the ETB or the AIL. Last trip cancellation pay protection language can be referenced in your CBA under Section 9.5.a. Should you receive a notification of low hours from your supervisor as a result of a cancellation or reschedule as described above, please provide your supervisor with the date/s and times of affected pairing when providing your response.

Thank you.
