PHL - Council 70 - NewsLine

9/15/2007

Hello Everyone,

Last week, Council 70 sent out a notice of our upcoming meeting and we want to remind you that the meeting will be held on Friday, September 21, 2007 at the PHL Airport Marriott. There will be a morning and afternoon session. The morning session will be from 9:00a-12:00p and the afternoon session will be from 1:30p-4:30p. The meeting notice is still available at: http://www.afausairways.org/PHL/phlmet.html

UHC COMPLAINTS:

We know that many of you still have problems with United Health Care and we have listened to those problems and forwarded them to the company. Two days ago, the company sent out a notice via US News Now that they will offer dual administrators for health care plans for next year. Read the MEC E-Line notice at: http://www.afausairways.org/Eline/sep14_07.htm

However, we still want to hear your complaints regarding UHC as they happen. We have set up an email address: UHCproblems@afausairways.org for you to utilize. If you have a complaint, please let us know and include the following:

1) Date of Service

2) The Provider (Doctor, Hospital, Lab, etc.)

3) Explanation of Benefits (what does it say you have received?)

4) Your name, employee number and a contact number.

5) What happened

FIDELITY’S 401(k) AWARENESS DAYS:

Fidelity will be offering in-person retirement planning in a few weeks here in PHL. The meeting will take place at the PHL Airport Marriott.

The first meeting will be Wednesday, October 3rd from 9a-5p

The second meeting will be Thursday, October 4th from 9a-5p

If you have any questions, please call the Fidelity Service Center for US Airways at:

1-800-354-3412 Monday – Friday, from 8:30a – Midnight, ET.

A PHL F/A DIRECTORY?

Some flight attendants have asked that we put together a local AFA directory for PHL-based flight attendants. This would strictly be voluntary, of course. The directory would include your name, phone number and email address. CLT recently put one out for their members that wanted to participate. We would like to know if you think this is a good idea or not and if you would be willing to participate. The primary concern here is, of course, privacy. If someone were to lose the booklet, then the information contained therein could fall into the wrong hands. Remember, this is voluntary. Send us your comments, thoughts and suggestions to: council70@afausairways.org

TRANSATLANTIC TRANSITIONAL TRIPS:

As the company begins to swap equipment on certain cities and end seasonal service to others, you will notice some trips that seem to only pay anywhere from 7+30 to 8+30. However, these times DO NOT reflect the 50% Deadhead time or the 1/3.5 rig time, whichever is greater.

For example, MAN pairing 51048 on September 26 shows a pay of 7+45 in the Trip Pairing Booklet. This trip has a DH from PHL to MAN for the first duty period and then work from MAN to PHL on the second duty period.

This trip will actually pay 12+20 because the total time away from base is greater than the 50% deadhead pay no credit calculation. This total pay time is calculated by taking the total time away from base (TRIP), which is 43+10 and dividing it by 1/3.5 rig, which you can do in CATCREW option 23. You would type 4310/3.5 and hit Enter. The total is: 12 hours 20 minutes.

UPGRADE QUESTIONS:

We still receive calls from members looking for clarification on upgrades. We know it is hard to get through to the Pass Bureau in PHX (we’ve tried) but the best chance you have is to email them: pass.bureau@usairways.com

There are two types of upgrades: $20. And $100.

The $100. Upgrades are for travel to/from Europe and Hawaii and they ARE refundable.

The $20. Upgrades are for all other segments and they ARE NOT refundable.

Upgrades are valid for three (3) years from the date of issue and they ARE transferable to another eligible person.

BOARDING EARLY?

Please review your Inflight Emergency Manual, Section 3-16, regarding Boarding Positions and Duties. Be aware that some agents in domestic stations may come to the aircraft asking you to board early because the flight is at capacity or higher. Remind the agent that this early boarding procedure is ONLY for LAS and PHX based flight attendants and that it DOES NOT apply to you. Your IEM clearly defines when you are required to be ready to receive customers.

LATE NOTICE:

On Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 12th, the company issued a special interest news item via CATCREW. Voluntary Personal Leaves of Absence (VPLOA) may be offered in CLT and PHL for the bid month of November 2007. The deadline to submit your form to Inflight Administration in Tempe is September 18th (Tuesday).
