Dear PHL Flight Attendants,
Last Friday, Bill Lehman, MEC President at America West Airlines put out an e-line to his members. This e-line basically stated that the AFA policy of Date of Hire for seniority integration wasn't fair to the AWA flight attendants. Our MEC President Mike Flores, sent out an e-line yesterday discussing this, and I also wanted to send something out to you.
Since 1988, when US Air merged with PSA, this airline has been through 3 mergers. PSA, Piedmont, and Trump Shuttle. Every single one was done by date of hire. This is the only fair way to merge two seniority lists. AWA MEC talks about the fact that they are a LCC and we are a Legacy Carrier and that is the reason the policy should change. I say Hogwash to that! PSA was the original LCC, in fact Southwest was modeled after PSA, and they are referred to as the original LCC. We've already merged a LCC with a Legacy and we did it date of hire.
Your MEC is not going to sit back and let them run us over, we are going to stand up and fight for fairness. We need your help. Please dispel any rumors that you hear about us not taking on this fight. We have given up so much in the last 4 years. We cannot and will not give up our seniority. Look what American has done to TWA, they stapled them to the bottom of their seniority list and now all the TWA flight attendants have been furloughed, probably never to fly again. We all have worked hard and given up too much to give up one more thing, especially if that one thing is our seniority.
