  • A Message from your LEC President and Vice President

A New Era for PHL FLIGHT ATTENDANTS

To all my co-workers and friends in PHL, today is my first day in office and I wanted to send out a short note to let you know we are here for you! As I set up my administration, I will be sending out as many e-lines as possible to get you the lasted up to date information. I will also post that information on the bulletin board in both crew rooms (look for new and updated bulletins boards coming in the next few weeks).

To all the hard working reserves in PHL (and the ones sent from PIT) thank you for the extra mile you all have gone these last few months. I spoke to John Petronzi from Crew Scheduling and he assured me once the transfers take place in August and the airplanes scheduled to leave in the latter part of August take place, life will get better. Unfortunately, July maybe a lot like June, especially if the weather stays in this pattern of thunderstorms on the east. But, there is a light at the end of the tunnel (I hope it is not just another on coming train!) So, I implore you to hang in there, and keep up the hard work and great attitudes I keep hearing about.

Our webmaster is going on vacation this next week, so when he gets back, I will work on updating our website. Your MEC (LEC President's from BOS, CLT, DCA, LGA, PHL, and PIT have voted in two wonderful Flight Attendant's as our merger seniority committee, Marianne Moore and John Humphrey. Their task is to go through all our Flight Attendant's seniority dates and come up with an updated list. Once the list is done, they will be sending out certified letters to all of us making sure the dates are correct.

This next week we (the MEC) will be electing one person for the merger negotiating team. This person, along with our MEC President will make up our side of the team. America West will do the same and we will have a total of 4 Flight Attendant's on AFA's side during the merger process. There is not much they do until the seniority lists are updated and then merged. We will keep you advised as things come up.

I am planning an LEC meeting for the sometime in the first half of August at the Marriott at the airport, more info on that at a later date. I hope as many of you as possible can make it!

The office is still in the same place, right by the credit union across from the employee lot, and the number is the same. On behalf of Terry Graf (LECVP), Mariellen Horgan (LEC Sec/Treas.), and Donnett Ross (Council Rep) I bid you safe flying, and stay tuned it's going to get a whole lot better!

**************

From your LEC Vice-President, Terry Graf

On behalf of the officers of Council 70, I want to thank Mollie McCarthy for the dedication, passion, and commitment she exhibited in protecting the rights of flight attendants. We offer our sincere gratitude for the work that Molly has done.

As I assume the office of LEC Vice President, I look forward to the next three years with a renewed sense of commitment. In addition, I am excited by the prospect of working with Laura Albert, Mariellen Horgan, and Donnett Ross, our newly-elected officers. I sincerely believe that the next three years will be marked by a great deal of change, and I want all of you to know that the leadership of Council 70 will be there for you when times get tough. The last few years have been full of turmoil, but if we stick together, we will achieve our goals. To that end, the leadership of Council 70 is committed to keeping you informed and making you an active part of the decision making process. You deserve nothing less than that, and the four of us will make every attempt to keep the lines of communication open.

The leadership of Council 70 is unified in the belief that knowledge, an open exchange of ides, and active participation are the keys to achieving our objectives. For far too long, many of us have remained on the sidelines, and far too often, we have allowed our differences to come between us. The divisions in our ranks have weakened us, and we have to guard against that at all times. Wherever we stand on specific issues, we have the right to decide our own destiny, and we can't allow ourselves to do that at one another's expense. Through thick and thin, we need to remember that we drink from the same glass. After all, we are the airline, and if we turn on each other we will hasten our own demise. Instead, let's show the airline that Council 70 is stronger than it has ever been.

As Vice President, my door is open to each and every one of you, and I look forward to working with you and for you in the years to come.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation, unity, and support.

Sincerely,

Terry Graf
Vice President, Council 70
