Hello Everyone,

As the International seasonal flying starts up, there are a few reminders we would like to pass along from some of the questions we’ve received recently.  There will be some of you who will be flying international for the first time and the following may be helpful to you.

First, please make sure you have the most current service flow booklet for the A330, B767 or B75E.  Things have changed since last year with the re-configuration of the A330, the LOD/O assisting with boarding and the addition of the sixth flight attendant on the B75E.  Also, please familiarize yourself with Section 12 of your contract, International Flying, regarding duty-time regulations.

Also:
Section 12-7, line 32 reads: The ‘A’ position flight attendant shall be designated as the "Cabin Service Director" and shall be responsible for directing all onboard service.

Section 9-34, line 16 reads: On an international pairing, position selection for all vacated line holder positions shall be based on seniority among the flight attendants originating the pairing and shall be made at least one hour and ten minutes (1:10) prior to scheduled departure.

Section 10-12, line 35 reads: When a flight departure is delayed for more than three (3:00) hours, the flight attendant who is scheduled for such flight shall not be required to stand by and shall be relieved of duty at his/her request, provided that other flight attendants are available to replace him/her without increasing the delay.  A flight attendant desiring to be relieved shall remain on duty until the relief flight attendant reports for duty.  A flight attendant exercising this option shall forfeit any pay and credit that may be accumulated under Paragraphs J. or K. of this Section.

CREW MEMBER SELF DEFENSE TRAINING:
The Transportation Security Administration Office of Law Enforcement, in conjunction with the Federal Air Marshall Service continues to offer an advanced self defense training program that includes appropriate and effective responses for defending against an attacker.  The program is two parts:  First, the flight attendant will receive a DVD and manual to become familiar with basic self defense concepts and techniques.  Second, the flight attendant will attend one day of "hands-on" training.

For flight attendants that live in the Philadelphia area, the course is offered at:
Delaware County Community College
85 North Malin Road
Broomall, PA  19008

Upcoming classes are scheduled for: May 18; June 11 & 22.

Question:  I’m based in Philadelphia but commute from Charlotte.  Can I attend a training class in Charlotte?

Answer: Yes.  Once you are qualified (and the qualifications may vary slightly from location to location) you can attend in another city.  For a list of locations, dates and contact information please go to:
http://www.tsa.gov/lawenforcement/training/cmsdt_training_locations.shtm

Question:  How much will this cost me?

Answer: The training and training materials are FREE.

Question:  How long does the class last?

Answer: The on-site portion of the training program lasts 8-9 hours.

Question:  Do I need to show ID to get into the class?

Answer: Yes, you will need to show your company ID and either your Driver’s license or Passport.

If you want to attend in a city closer to your home, please contact the person associated with the local program.  One PHL-based flight attendant, who recently completed the program, said "I feel more secure on the aircraft and much safer at our overnights now that I’ve completed this program."

PROBLEMS WITH AGENTS:
We are not receiving as many complaints from flight attendants who commute to/from PHL as we were last month or the month before.  However, we do still hear from flight attendants who are having problems with agents as they are trying to commute to/from work.  If you are still having problems, especially with agents at PHL, please continue to let your local AFA office know what happened to you and we will continue to work with the Customer Service personnel at PHL.

ATL COMMUTERS:
If you live commute from Atlanta, you will soon be able to obtain a SIDA badge so that you can resume access to the ATL security checkpoint from the designated airport parking lot.  If you have not received a letter from the company and you commute from ATL, please contact Mark Stelzer at InFlight Administration as soon as possible.  His number is: 480-693-5827.

FIRST SICK CALL OF THE YEAR:
There continues to be some confusion on the language regarding your first sick occurrence each year.  Section 8-1, line 15 reads: As an exception to the above, the Company agrees to pay sick time at 100% pay and credit or the first sick occurrence originating in a calendar year up to a maximum of four (4) consecutive calendar days.

Question:  I have a 2-day on Monday and Tuesday and again on Friday and Saturday.  If I’m sick for both trips and this is my first sick call of the year, will I get paid 100% for both trips?

ANSWER: No, you will NOT be paid 100% for both trips, only the first trip because this is not four consecutive calendar days.  Please refer to Section 8-1 for more information.

HOW TO RECEIVE LEC AND MEC E-LINES:
If this E-line has been forwarded to you, please take a moment to sign up to receive E-Lines from your local LEC, MEC as well as other LEC E-lines, if you so choose.  You can do this by going to: http://www.unionvoice.org/e_line_afa_usairways/join.tcl

TRANSPORTATION DAY of ACTION
This Thursday, there will be a rally in Washington, D.C. at 12p at The National Mall.  For more information, go to: www.afanet.org

RESERVE INFO:
If you did not see the latest MEC Reserve update last week, please refer to:
http://www.afausairways.org/Eline/may09_07.htm

Please keep in mind that the company is not obligated to release a reserve into their INV and/or OFF days.  This is done as a courtesy.  Please continue to document any reserve-related issues and contact your LEC Reserve Chair, Omar Bryant, at: OBryant@afausairways.org

AIRCRAFT CLEANING:
Once again, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with Section 30-2 E. (Cabin Cleaning Duties).  A flight attendant will not be required to perform such cabin cleaning duties after the conclusion of his/her duty day. (30-2, line 32).
