| Hello Everyone,
We have just a few items for
today’s issue:
- The big news is, of course,
the company’s decision to recall flight attendants, thereby
eliminating the need to displace any PHL-based flight
attendants. Read the latest MEC ELine and Scott Kirby’s
letter at:
http://www.afausairways.org/Eline/apr03_07.htm
- Secondary Lines for May
will open at 1800 on Saturday, April 7th. PHL will again see
yet another increase in Secondary Lines. There were 375
blocks for April and that will increase to 399 for May.
There will also be 10 Secondary LOD/O lines as well.
Secondary Line bidding will close on April 12th at 1800.
- Since I came into office on
March 1st, I’ve been either on the phone or emailing the
people in PHX everyday regarding the continuing problems
with the ETC and 1-800 number. This past Tuesday night, the
company installed an updated version of the ETC and if
you’ve been on there lately, you have noticed that it is
operating much faster. I was told this past week that the
company will continue to make enhancements to the ETC to
improve reliability and functionality. If you continue to
experience problems, send your emails to:

- 75E to Europe: We’re just a
month away from the start of seasonal flying and I wanted to
take this opportunity to clarify an issue that has carried
over from last summer. As you know, there will be six flight
attendants on the 75E to/from Europe this summer. The
question I’ve been asked is this:
"If I pick up the ‘F’ position on a 75E trip to
Europe, can I be bumped out of that position even though it
is a separate pairing?"
Answer: No, you can’t be bumped out of the
separate pairing position.
Last summer, the language on this was ambiguous due to a CBS
message the company sent out. If you are awarded, either
from the AIL or ETB, the F position on trips to/from Europe
on the 75E, you can’t be bumped out of that position. If you
want to swap onto the main trip pairing with someone who is
willing to work the F position, you are allowed to do this
by calling scheduling and swapping pairings. Basically, the
separate pairing on the 75E trips to/from Europe will be
treated just as they are on the A321 or the 767
non-Transoceanic.
This will only apply to May as the company has decided to
change the bidding in June to all six flight attendant
positions being on the same pairing number, thereby
eliminating the separate pairing.
- Please make sure that AFA
International has your most current address and contact
information. You can do this online at:

- When using a PER day,
flight attendants are required to make a follow up call with
his/her supervisor. You do NOT have to explain why you
needed a PER day, but you just have to call your supervisor
to let them know you did use one. Contract: Section 30-9.
- We continue to see
Inadvertent Slide Deployments. We’ve had three since March 1
– two on the B767 and one on the Airbus 319. When you are
taken for your drug/alcohol test, DO NOT answer any
questions regarding the incident. Please contact the PHL Air
Safety & Health Chair, Pat Williams-Harter at: 215-688-6718
and call the LEC office at: 215-492-0840.
- The Penn Relays will be
held in Philadelphia April 26-29. It will be very difficult
to make local hotel reservations at the last minute. If you
commute and think you will need a room on those dates,
please make your reservation as early as possible.
- Please continue to visit
the PHL page of the US Airways-AFA site at:
http://www.afausairways.org/phlmain.html
We’ve posted some reserve
updates and make sure to let your friends know to sign up for
the E-Line, which you can do on that page.
On behalf of Grace, Dan, Omar and all of your committee
members/volunteers, we hope each of you have a safe and Happy
Easter weekend.
