Dear PHL Flight Attendants,
The Philadelphia Base is growing again and soon we will have many displaced employees flying with us. I ask that you be open and sensitive to the fact that change is painful at any stage in your career. Be cognizant to the fact that 80% or more of the Philadelphia base is made up of commuters. Welcome them to the base as I feel our flight attendants in Philadelphia are truly the survivors of all the mergers.

Where are we on the grievance frontier? I would be pleased if this were not the case however due to the fact that a vast majority of this base are commuters there are problems that are a result of various factors. If any employee is on Level 1, 2, or Final I cannot reiterate to you that it is essential that you be careful about how seriously you take your job. There are several perks in the Contact that assist the Commuters while they encounter the unexpected cancellation of getting to work. This part of the Contract is located in Section 30-8. Please read the information and do not forget to register. The contract allows for the 1 late check in that will not be part of the steps that can move you forward down the track of Dependability. One thing I would like to mention to all of you now that the company has broken down the Team Concept you will have a designated Supervisor. Your first line of communication should be that you get the Union to advocate for you. I realize that it does not accomplish much but ask those who have been involved from the beginning with the representation and they will tell you that it is the most aggressive step to truly evaluate where you stand. It basically states to the Company that you care about your file and that you take its contents seriously. Just a suggestion when you receive a note to respond to your supervisor it really helps that you tell them how to contact you. Jot down how you want to close the deal. I would resent getting a mandatory meeting with the possibility that it did not have to go down this route had I just taken a moment to respond.
If you are based in Philadelphia we are fortunate to have Paul Frishkorn living here. He has a wealth of information and although he also fly's he does return all phone calls. Paul has been known to assist flight attendants with not racking up sick calls because it was covered by FMLA or PCL. These tools are so valuable to you as we tread the 4 sick call rule. Life happens and there are events that cause you to be ill, Job protect yourself. These forms can be found on the HUB. It is important to not allow your sick calls to get unmanageable.
It is hard to mention this situation but better I let you know the reality of how you will be treated. There is no excuse that will allow an employee to pilfer anything from US Airways. I do not care who you are the result will be termination. I have seen some of the best flight attendants on record get involved in stealing and let me tell you it catches up to the person. The new US Airways will not tolerate theft at any level. If you think that people get away with this it will not go on for long. We need to respect our work environment. Just remember, the aircraft is not your personal Piggly Wiggly!
