Subject: CDG Briefing Procedures
Since September 11, 2001, many of the French Consulates in the U.S. have required all airline crewmembers to appear in person to obtain a French Visa. These consulates include Boston, Miami, New York and Washington.  With this new requirement and the Company’s continued position not to reimburse flight attendants for expenses incurred while obtaining a French Visa in person, Inflight may see an increase in the number of flight attendants with no Visa.

Although appearing in person to obtain French Visa presents some difficulties for our flight attendants, please note Work and Conduct Rule 42, found in the Flight Attendant Emergency Manual.  This rule states that all flight attendants are required to carry a valid passport with Visa, if applicable, and US Airways company ID.

Beginning October 1, 2002 all ITD Supervisors will begin a briefing procedure for our CDG departures in the International Transoceanic Domicile Program.

The gate check procedure will:

  • Provide ITD supervisors with a consistent and usable format for gathering/reporting information.
  • Ensure compliance with Work and Conduct Rule 42.

    This procedure will require all ITD supervisors to visually inspect the French Visas for all flight attendants working the CDG flight.

    If an ITD flight attendant is found without a French Visa the following is to be accomplished:

  • Contact Crew Scheduling to have the flight attendant removed from the trip and a replacement called.
  • Advise flight attendant he/she will not paid for the trip.
  • Advise flight attendant he/she will need to go immediately in person to obtain a Visa.
  • Advise flight attendant he/she will need to provide proof of Visa to direct supervisor.
  • Ask the flight attendant to contact their direct supervisor the next business day and submit a written statement.
    • If an ITD flight attendant swaps his/her trip because he/she does not have a Visa and a supervisor is notified, the following is to be accomplished:
