UNDERSTAFFING PAY

Flight attendants should refer to Section 9.J. (Staffing) for determining understaffing pay requirements.

AFA filed grievances on both the Additional and Supplemental flight attendant understaffing language. The arbitrator in both cases agreed that the company has the exclusive right to determine flight attendant staffing levels.

With respect to understaffing pay, if a flight is not covered with the “Supplemental” flight attendant as outlined in the staffing parameters of Section 9.J.2. each flight attendant working the understaffed flight segments will be compensated $10.50 per credited hour.

Since the “ADD” position is based solely on the needs of the service, a flight not staffed with the “Additional” flight attendant has no negotiated contract language that provides understaffing pay.
