to Address MEC
As a reminder, Mr. Siegel
will speak at the MEC meeting on Friday, September 6, from 9:00 am -10:30
am. All members in good standing our encouraged to attend. The Holiday
Inn (412-262-3600) provides transportation from the airport.
French
Visa Requirement
Since September 11, 2001,
many of the French Consulates in the U.S. have required all airline crewmembers
to appear in person to obtain a French Visa. These consulates include Boston,
Miami, New York and Washington. With this new requirement, the Company’s
continued position is to NOT reimburse flight attendants for expenses incurred
while obtaining a French Visa in person.
Beginning October 1, 2002
any flight attendant not having a French Visa will be removed from the
Paris trip. ITD Supervisors will begin to visually inspect visas for all
F/As working the CDG flight beginning October 1. You can read more HERE.
Cabin
Divider Curtains
On your behalf, your AFA
Safety & Health Committee argued in meetings with management that the
cabin divider curtains remain open on domestic flights for security reasons.
(FARs and Security Directives do not require that curtains remain open
in flight). Apparently, flight attendants, pilots, and passengers
have complained about the curtains remaining open for various reasons,
the most common of which is that that it creates increased traffic through
first class. In our mind, this change in policy reflects an overiding concern
for customer service.
We believe the curtains should
remain open for security reasons - so that we can remain vigilant in our
observations of the aircraft cabin, fellow flight attendants, and passenger
behavior. If you have concerns about the new policy of closing curtains
during flight, please let your voice be heard! File a Cabin Safety
Report and copy it for your Safety committee.
