LETTER FROM PAT FRIEND TO IAM PRESIDENT

The IAM is in a dispute with US Airways management regarding
heavy maintenance on certain Airbus aircraft. The Company has
made the decision to outsource this maintenance, which violates
the Agreement with the IAM. The IAM intends to pursue whatever
legal means it can to stop the Company from outsourcing their
work to a foreign Company that happens to have its facilities in
the state of Alabama where the Company's Chairman resides and
conducts business.

Below is the letter of support from AFA International President
Pat Friend to the International President of IAM.

September 29, 2003

Mr. R. Thomas Buffenbarger
International President
International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers
9000 Machinists Place
Upper Marlboro MD 20772-2687

Dear Tom:

It is horrifying to know that US Airways management is willing
to risk the safety of the flight crew and passengers by
illegally selling heavy maintenance work to a low-bidding
foreign corporation solely because it's based in US Airways
Chairman Bronner's home state.

The flight attendants at US Airways entrust their safety every
day to the trained, highly skilled hands of IAM member aircraft
mechanics. And you never let us down.

The flight attendants, too, have suffered many attacks on their
rights at work ever since this team of rogue corporate
executives set foot on US Airways property. Our members continue
to be hurt by management's push to eliminate good jobs at US
Airways and replace them with low-wage, low benefit jobs that
hurt our communities and us.

The severe sacrifices made by the workers to save the airline
last year have seemed to send US Airways management into a
feeding frenzy for more. We stand with you everyday at work, and
we will stand with your members in your fight to protect good
jobs and your contract from further devastation by this
airline's management.

The AFA leadership at US Airways will inform our members of
management's illegal tactics and will prepare to support you
using all legal means available.

In Solidarity,

Patricia A. Friend
International President
