As security costs continue
to mount for the government, there are some in the government who think
they should simply double the security fees on airline tickets to cover
these rising costs. The airlines simply cannot afford this and want
to work together to prevent legislation from being enacted which would
pass this government cost on to us and our passengers.
Collectively, the
airlines hope to have employees from all the major carriers come to Washington
to visit Members' offices on Monday the 23rd, prior to a House hearing
on Tuesday (24th) on the financial condition of the industry.
We would welcome
another group on Tuesday (24th) to visit Senate offices in advance of their
hearing on the same subject which will be held on Wednesday (25th).
Then, if there are
some whose only free time would be Wednesday the 25th, we would welcome
their attending the Senate hearing in uniform.
Conditions:
-
Participation is voluntary
and on the employee's own time;
-
US Airways will provide
positive space travel;
-
US Airways will join
with other major airlines and have a briefing room on the Hill for all
participants.
-
Participants will be
assigned to a team of employees from a variety of airlines.
-
All employees will be
briefed prior to visiting any Congressional Office.
-
Appointments will be
made for all teams by Government Affairs Offices of the airlines.
US Airways employees
are the best at articulating messages and understanding the political process.
So, hopefully, you will support this effort and encourage volunteers. We
need US Airways' employees on the teams. You all know what we accomplish
when we work together and have our voices heard.
Interested flight
attendants should call Legislative Affairs Chair Marianne Moore at 321-777-1295
or email mmoore@afausairways.org.
