PERMANENT DEFENSE FUND
The following letter will be mailed to each member in good standing this week. Please remember to VOTE!
RE: US AIRWAYS FLIGHT ATTENDANT PERMANENT DEFENSE FUND
POLLS OPEN: 10:00 AM, EDT, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2003
POLLS CLOSE: 12:30 PM, EDT, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2003
Dear Flight Attendant
Your MEC has passed a resolution mandating that the US Airways Flight Attendants be balloted on the question of whether to adopt a $10 per member annual assessment to fund a Permanent Defense Fund (PDF) for the purpose of providing financial assistance to US Airways Flight Attendants who may in the future be involved in legal, authorized strikes or other work actions, including CHAOS work actions. Money from the PDF may be used to defray expenses related to engaging in such work
actions including, but not limited to, flight pay loss for flight attendants working a flight targeted for a CHAOS work action, hotel expenses and transportation costs associated with helping flight attendants return to their home domicile when stranded because of a strike. The PDF will also pay for the costs of its own administration, future fund raising to build the PDF, and the cost of this ballot.
If passed, the commencement of this PDF assessment will be March 15, 2004 meaning along with the monthly dues charge an additional annual assessment of $10 will be levied, with only that portion to go into the PDF. This PDF assessment will occur every subsequent year on that date.
All active (meaning dues paying) Members in good standing on the count date who have cast their ballot will have their vote counted. In order to be eligible to vote, a Member who is on a leave of absence or Voluntary Furlough, and the count date of the ballot is beyond the first ninety days of their leave or furlough, must have paid their 90-day dues obligation and all subsequent months leading up to and including the month in which the count will be held. You must pay any outstanding
delinquent dues before the count date or your vote will not be counted.
Approval by a simple majority of valid ballots cast by members eligible to vote on the count date will determine if the agreement is ratified.
Voting instructions will be included with the ballot.
