Pay
Protection
The pay protection we will receive
for the pre-cancelled trips in September and October, is that which is
covered in the contract Section 9.5 and
9.G.b, (last
series of trip(s) and equipment substitution). There will not be any other
relief or pay protection, as we had in 1999.
Planned Reductions
With the planned reduction in aircraft
up to 723 flight attendants may be involuntarily furloughed. This number
will be reduced by however many flight attendants take a voluntary separation
incentive package (VSIP) and a voluntary furlough, hereafter called VF2.
The VSIP was mailed to all eligible flight attendants last week. All active
and inactive flight attendants who have completed 5 years are eligible.
(Please visit the AFA US Airways Website to see more requirements). The
separation form must be postmarked no later than midnight, October 26.
An application may be withdrawn within 7 days of execution, not 7 days
after closing.
The VSIP information is available
on the AFA US Airways Web Site at: http://www.afausairways.org/vsp.htm.
Voluntary Furlough (VF2) information
will be available soon. If the company furloughed using today's current
numbers, the worst case scenario; where no one chose voluntary separation
or voluntary furlough, the INVOLUNTARY furlough would reach the class of
9/29/99, seniority number 9052. One can access their seniority number on
Catcrew Option 2. The effective date for the furloughs will be 12/2/02.
VPLOA's may be offered in some domiciles beginning in November.Displacement
notices will be mailed the week of October 21. It is impossible to know
at this time who may or may not be displaced.
New National Health
Plan
(To Read More on this, visit http://www.afausairways.org/med/bcbs.htm)
US Airways will introduce a new national
health care plan during this year's open enrollment. Known as The Blue
Card Program, the new plan is a national preferred provider (PPO). The
company's new medical plan vendor, effective January 1, 2003, will be BlueCross/BlueShield
(BCBS).
Effective January 1, The Blue Card
Program will replace all the current medical plans. The company's HMO plans,
Prudent Buyer, as well as the United Health Care POS and the Indemnity
Plan will be introduced.
A newly designed PPO dental plan, replacing
the current managed care dental plan, also will go into effect for 2003,
and MetLife will continue to serve as US Airways' provider. The indemnity
dental plan will be discontinued.
Open enrollment is scheduled for October
14-November 1. Enrollment is required this year for all employees and retirees
for 2003 benefits. If you do not enroll you will automatically "default"
to the employee only level of medical coverage and you will not be able
to make changes unless you experience a change in work status or experience
a life event that qualifies you to make benefit changes.
A newsletter describing the changes
will be mailed to all employees and retirees later this month. If you have
questions concerning the 2003 benefits call 800-577-1067. 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
eastern time.
If you have questions regarding current
benefits that are effective through December 31, 2002, call 800-872-4780.
