Voluntary Separation Program

More information is available on the AFA US Airways Website.

In hopes of offsetting upcoming involuntary furloughs, the Company is offering the Voluntary Separation Program 2002, under which certain Flight Attendants may leave the service of the Company in exchange for travel benefits. This Program will be similar to programs offered to flight attendants in 2000.

Under the Program, up to 723 Flight Attendants who meet the minimum eligibility requirements may elect to resign from the Company in exchange for certain post-employment travel benefits and health benefits for themselves and eligible family members. The number of travel passes provided under the Program depends on the Flight Attendant's years of service with the Company. There may be tax consequences associated with the use of these travel benefits.

In order to qualify for the Program, an employee must have completed at least five five years of service with the Company as of October 26, 2002.  If more than 723 eligible Flight Attendants apply for the Program, participants will be selected based upon seniority using the competitive bidding seniority date. A copy of the Program is available at http://www.afausairways.org/furlough/vsp.htm. Excerpts of this program below.

US Airways Voluntary Separation Program 2002

In accordance with the Restructuring Agreement between AFA and the Company, this Program will provide an opportunity for certain Flight Attendants to separate voluntarily from US Airways in exchange for certain travel benefits, thereby reducing the number of involuntary furloughs.

Eligible Employees

All active and inactive employees who are Flight Attendants as of September 12, 2002, and who have completed five (5) or more years of Company service as of October 26, 2002, are eligible.  Flight Attendants who have completed less than five (5) years of service with the Company as of October 26, 2002, (that is, original Company hire dates of October 27, 1997, and after) are ineligible.  The Program is limited to the 723 eligible Flight Attendants.  If more than 723 eligible Flight Attendants apply, Flight Attendants will be selected based upon seniority using the competitive seniority bidding date.

Benefits

Eligible employees who separate from US Airways under this program will receive the following benefits:
1) Non-revenue, space available passes in accordance with the following

a) Employees who have completed at least five (5) but less than ten (10) years of Company service as of October 26, 2002, (original hire dates between October 27, 1992, through October 26, 1997) are eligible to receive ten (10) non-revenue, space-available passes for the employee and each eligible family member for the calendar years 2002 through and including 2007.
b) Employees who have completed at least ten (10) years of Company service as of October 26, 2002, (original hire date of October 26, 1992 and before) will receive unlimited non-revenue, space-available passes for the employee and each eligible family member for life of the employee after the Voluntary Separation Date.
2) Medical and dental benefits for one hundred twenty (120) days after the Voluntary Separation Date.  For the first one hundred twenty (120) days after your Voluntary Separation Date, you will be required to pay the same contribution that you make as an active employee.  At the end of one hundred twenty days, you are eligible for continuation coverage of your medical and dental plans (COBRA) by paying full insurance premium rates (employee and employer contributions).  You will be provided with exact COBRA rates after your Voluntary Separation Date.

Flight Attendants who participate in this Program are not eligible to receive severance benefits or furlough pay pursuant to any other policy program or contractual provision.

Application Deadline

Flight Attendants interested in participating in this Program should complete and return the Voluntary Separation Program 2002 Application and Release Form postmarked no later than October 26, 2002.  Faxes will not be accepted.  A flight attendant will have seven (7) days after executing the Application and Release Form to rescind.

Selection and Release Process

No later than November 7, 2002, the Company will notify each applicant whether he/she has been accepted as a Participant in the Program.  Participants will be assigned a Voluntary Separation Date, which will be the date the employee's resignation becomes effective.  The Voluntary Separation Date will be determined by the Company based on the needs of the service, but in no case will it be later than December 31, 2002.

Years of Company Service

Eligibility and the level of benefits under the Program are determined according to years of Company Service.  For purposes of this program, Company Service commences on the date the employee was first placed on the payroll.  For a Flight Attendant who left the service of the Company and was rehired, Company Service commences on the most recent date of rehire.
