This is the official New York City observance of the
anniversary of 9/11 and the event will take place at the World
Trade Center site.

New York City - 9/11 World Trade Center Memorial Annual
Floating Lanterns Ceremony
Date: September 11, 2008
Location: Pier 40 at West Houston Street and
the Hudson River
The New York Buddhist Church (NYBC) will present a floating
lantern ceremony led by Rev. TK Nakagaki. This ancient custom is
a symbolic representation of respecting the lives that have gone
before us and also represents a light of hope for peace and
harmony. This event is free and open to the public.

Cape Coral, Florida - Memorial Event

5848 Cape Harbour Drive, Cape Coral, FL 33914
There will be a memorial ceremony honoring the September 11,
2001 crewmembers of the American and United flights 11, 77, 93
and 175.
The ceremony will be held at 8:30 A.M., in Cape Coral, Florida
at Rumrunners Cape Harbour (by the water) in the Southwest Cape.
There will be speeches by local dignitaries and friends of some
of the crewmembers. Participants will gather for lunch following
the memorial.
The ceremony is open to the public and Flight Crews from all
airlines are encouraged to wear their uniforms.
If you live in Southwest Florida or have friends or family here,
please attend, or let your family and friends know about the
ceremony.

Los Angeles Fire Department - Memorial Event

Park, home to the west coast's largest remnant of the collapse.
We hope you and your family can join us for one or both of these
events. We encourage Flight Attendants to attend in
uniform.

Redondo Beach - Memorial Event
Date: September 13, 2008
Time: 1000-1130
The City of Redondo Beach (just south of LAX) will hold a
ceremony to dedicate a 9/11 memorial on Saturday, September 13,
2008 at 1000 to 1130. There will be a special seating area for
airline crewmembers, friends and family of the victims, and
firefighters from the FDNY.
The event will be held at the Redondo Beach Civic Center,
next to the Redondo Beach Public Library just off PCH (corner of
PCH & Diamond St). Flight Attendants and Pilots from United and
American Airlines are encouraged to attend in uniform.
Organizers would like to have a general idea of attendee head
count from United. AFA LAX Council 12 is coordinating the

San Diego - Memorial Service
Date: September 11, 2008
Time: 2:30 pm
There will be a September 11th service held aboard the flight
deck of the USS Midway in San Diego’s Navy Pier. This service
will serve to remember those lost on September 11, 2001. Names
of the United & American Airlines crewmembers lost on 9/11,
along with Fire, Police, and Port Authority personnel lost will
be read at the annual memorial tribute aboard the USS Midway at
the San Diego Navy Pier. This event will take place on Thursday,
September 11, 2008.
This annual memorial tribute is hosted by the FDNY Retirees
of California with AFA-CWA participation, and will include
presentation of Colors, Pipes & Drums, Honor Guards, SDFD
Helicopter Flyover, 21 Guns, and the reading of names. AFA LAX
Council 12 is coordinating our involvement in the event. Please

afalax@unitedafa.org. Include in the e-mail your name,
contact number and e-mail. Also indicate if you are willing to
participate in reading the names of our heroes. All crewmembers
are encouraged to attend in full uniform.

Washington, DC - Pentagon Memorial Official Dedication.
Date: September 11, 2008.
The Pentagon will dedicate the new memorial and open it to
the public. The memorial commemorates the 184 lives lost in the
Pentagon and on American Airlines Flight 77 during the terrorist
attacks.

From the Washington Hebrew Congregation at 3935 Macomb Street
NW, Washington, DC to The Islamic Center, the National Sikh
Gurdwara Washington Cathedral, Vatican Embassy with a concluding
celebration at the Gandhi Memorial.

Cathedral

Beyond Tolerance: Touching the Heart of Religious America
with Gustav Neibuhr,. This will be a free event, open to the
public, but reservations are required. Call (877)537-2228. Join
Gustav Niebuhr who will tell stories of faith communities
throughout America crossing religious boundaries by reaching out
with love and forgiveness. His new work chronicles his
cross-country quest, where he finds not a war on terror but a
crusade to discover common interests and mutual respect. On
Sunday, September 7, 2008, the National Cathedral will be one
stop along the route of the Unity Walk. |
