Dear Members,

HURRICANE RELIEF FLIGHTS UPDATE

Our evacuation flight returned to CLT this evening with a full load of evacuees. I was at the airport to meet the flight and must report that I was filled with both pride and sadness. To a person, the crew reported that this was the most "positive and fulfilling moment of their lives". This crew deserves our gratitude and admiration. They faced many delays and frustrations but in the end relocated almost 500 hundred people to various safe harbors throughout the southeast. The crew finished their mission by bringing 120 plus victims to their base and hometown. It was a fitting end to their heroic three day trip.

The passengers arriving in CLT left me with a sense of helplessness and despair. Those deplaning were devoid of any facial expression or well being. Those meeting them were shocked at their demeanor and bewilderment. We have done our job and these people are now in capable hands. Hands that are stretched out to assist them in the rebuilding of their lives.

In addition to this flight, US Airways is participating in the relocation of firefighters and medical personnel to the devastated region. I do not know what future role US Airways will be asked to play. If anyone would like to volunteer for future flights you may contact crew scheduling and be placed on a volunteer list. The lists will be worked in seniority order to the extent possible. As was the case this weekend the call to US Airways is often time critical and crews must be put together on short notice.

Thank you,

Mike Flores
MEC President
