Negotiations Update
The AFA today filed a motion asking the Bankruptcy Court to reconsider its order, issued October 15, allowing US Airways to reduce flight attendant pay by 21% for the next four months. The motion pointed out two critical errors which led the company to significantly underestimate the cash value of savings which it would receive from such a wage cut, and asked the Court to revise its order to accurately reflect the savings the company will achieve from reduced benefit costs associated with the wage cut, and to reflect the fact that the company has not made required minimum funding payments toward the AFA’s pension plan since filing for bankruptcy.
The motion asked the Court to value the savings taken from the flight attendant work force in the same way as the company has valued reductions in salaried and management expenses. The AFA asked the Court to amend its order and permit only a 4.7% wage cut during the interim period.
No hearing has yet been scheduled on the AFA’s motion.
