Dear Members,

AFA BOD Update - Agenda Item #3

Coming to you from the floor of the BOD Meeting in Palm Springs, California.

Your MEC President and Vice President arrived in PSP Saturday night to attend the annual BOD meeting.

President Mike Flores met with UAL, MESA and Mesaba representatives yesterday to present our position on the Date of Hire agenda item. The response from these LEC's was very positive and understanding. Throughout the day Mike met with many of the other carriers soliciting equal opposition to this agenda.

Agenda Item #3 will be assigned a committee this evening. This committee will go over this agenda item and and make a recommendation to the BOD either tonight or tomorrow. At that time the BOD will vote.

Your MEC will keep you updated as the meeting and the vote progresses.

Thank You,

Mike Flores MECP and your MEC Officers

Subject: Vacation Bidding Update

There are several changes to the vacation bid process this year.  One that affects the Second Round of bidding (now open) is that if you have already been awarded a bid of less than four (4) days on the First Round, the bid input screen will give you an error message should you try to enter a bid for less and four (4) days for the Second Round.  It will not allow you to bid any more than one (1) group of less than four (4) days for either of the first two rounds of bidding.  Furthermore, the system will not allow you to "attach" days to a previous bid, so would again prohibit you from bidding for a second group of less than four (4) days.

In the last round of vacations, the Assignment Round, the system looks at all days unscheduled.  It will begin at the end of the year (Dec. 31) and work towards the front (Jan. 01).  It will attempt to award as many groups of seven(7) days as possible (based on the number days left unscheduled being more than seven(7) days.) Then it will try to award groups of six(6) days, five(5) days, etc. until it gets to one(1) day groups. As per the Agreement, the system will attempt to award as few groups of days possible.

Hopefully this message will help clear up some of the questions about the changes taking place in the Vacation process.

Thank you.
