The following letter from the company was approved by the entire MEC.
September 30, 2004
Mr. Perry Hayes
200 Marshall Drive
Coraopolis, PA 15108
Dear Perry,
As you know, the request to extend the voluntary furloughs for those on the VF1 as well as the change to aircraft allocation in PHW resulted in the delay of the closing of the 2005 Global Bid. This delay had a subsequent affect on the Company's ability to meet the 2005 Vacation Bid timeline as set forth in Section 7.D of the Flight Attendant Agreement. As a result, the Company has established a new 2005 Vacation Bid timeline as set forth below and is requesting that the MEC agree to the timeline as proposed.
While we recognize that the proposed timeline shortens the first round bidding period for flight attendants, we believe it is necessary in order to complete the 2005 vacation bid process in time for the opening of the January 2005 primary lines and the January monthly rebid process.
Additionally, the Company agrees that your acceptance of the proposed timeline provision is contingent on its ability to post the master year vacation day matrix within five (5) days of the opening of the first round of bidding.
Finally, in exchange for relief regarding the contractual timelines as set forth in Section 7.D, the Company agrees to conduct another vacation bid for 2005 should the parties reach an agreement which contains one or both of the following provisions:
1. Elimination of the ITD
2. Modification of the current vacation accrual schedule
