Dear Members,
HOLIDAY TRIP IMPROVING CLARIFICATION
In yesterdays Eline the following was published regarding Holiday Trip
Improving:
It was reported to me yesterday that a member of the Inflight Services staff had
incorrectly told a Flight Attendant holding a trip over Christmas she would be
unable to trip improve off the trip because Christmas was a "protected holiday".
Protected holidays have nothing to do with the AIL. Protected
holidays apply only to SAP and the percentage (15) of holiday trips that can be
dropped in SAP. If you are holding a trip that works over ANY holiday you are
still allowed to use the AIL to touch the trip and have the holiday off.
I would like to issue the following clarification:
This problem was actually reported to me about both a Thanksgiving and a
Christmas trip. Protected Holiday listed in Section 9 of the Contract include,
January 1, Memorial Day Independence Day, Labor Day, December 24,25 and 31. The
protected holiday language applies to SAP and the 15% limit on drops allowed
during the SAP process.
The protected holiday language does not extend to the AIL. The Weekend AIL
restriction does require that if you have a trip(s) that operates over a weekend
day(s) you are required to work on the weekend day(s) the trip(s) operate. For
example:
#1 PAIRING #1234
FRIDAY DEC 22
SATURDAY DEC 23
SUNDAY DEC 24
MONDAY DEC 25
In this example, a Flight Attendant holding pairing #1234 will be able to trip
improve and hold the December 25 off but would be required to touch both
Saturday, December 23 and Sunday, December 24, per the Weekend AIL Restriction.
#2 PAIRING #4321
FRIDAY DEC 29
SATURDAY DEC 30
SUNDAY DEC 31
In this example, a Flight Attendant holding pairing #4321 can still use the AIL
but would be required to touch both Saturday, December 30 and Sunday, December
31 per the Weekend AIL Restriction.
If any Holiday protected or not, falls on a weekend day and you have a trip that
operates on that day, you will be required to touch that day per the Weekend AIL
Restriction.
I hope this clears up any confusion that may exist regarding "protected
holidays" and the Weekend AIL Restriction.
Thank you,
Mike Flores, President
