PBGC Notification

The PBGC is still sending out Notices of Final Determination to flight attendants at US Airways. While they had hoped to have all notices out by the end of October, 2008 the actuaries are still working through a number of flight attendants to verify information. As of today, November 3, 2008, the PBGC has told me it could be February 2009 before all notices are sent out. The first notices were sent out in mid September 2008.

Once you receive your notice, you have 45 days from the date on the letter to appeal any of the information in your Notice of Final Determination.

The Social security offset is already computed in your notice of Final Determination. Remember, the Social Security offset has nothing to do with your actual Social Security payment. It just a step down in the formula that allows at age 62 for the collection of Social Security benefits whether you take them then or at age 70 or somewhere in between.

The PBGC states they have received a number of letters back with incorrect addresses. If you move, you must notify the PBGC of your address change. You may contact the PBGC at either www.PBGC.gov or 800-400-7242.
