Dear Members,

July 09 Primaries: The Manager-Flight Attendant Scheduling, John Petronzi set the MAX in ALL bases at 90 hrs of Company time, which applies to Lineholders and Reserves. The objective was a window of 75-90 hrs. The way the pilot lines are built, by aircraft type, some lines were beneath the minimum window.  Additionally, AFA wanted to make as many "flight attendant only lines" as possible so the minimum for those lines was 70.  AFA agreed to publish such lines.

Less 75: If awarded a line of less than 75:00 you can come in with such value or use the AIL.  Additionally, you can SAP upward to 90 hrs of Company time (including vacation time) to increase your flying time. When SAP is utilized the increased post SAP line value would be your new obligation including vacation time.

SAP: Group 1 (PHL and BOS) opens May 24th at 1800 and closes May 30th 1800.  Group 2 (CLT, DCA LGA) opens May 24th at 1800 and closes May 31st at 1800.  The SAP non-high option window is MAX of 90 and MIN of 60.  The SAP window has been expanded beyond the Contract provisions to allow for the extra blocking window (70-85).

SAP: July Fourth is a Protected Holiday. You may utilize SAP to drop pairings which touch a Protected Holiday such as the July Fourth. However, such drop is based on a percentage related to the "Open Positions" touching the Protected Holidays resulting from all known drops prior to SAP opening. If those "Open Positions" are under 15% a drop that touches a protected holiday may occur.  The following list was compiled to give you an idea of the "Open Positions" percentages directly related to the last protected holiday (Memorial Day). Only BOS had a percentage of "Open Positions" below the 15%.  Some F/A's in Boston where contacted, in seniority order, and trips that touched Memorial Day were dropped to bring the "Open Positions" to at least 15%. In other bases, the holiday drop process relied on other F/A's wanting to ADD a holiday trip via a chain link.

For Reference only Memorial Day Stats: CLT - Start: 19.24% End: 15.16%  BOS – Start: 15.94%: End: 10.14%,  DCA- Start:  26.28% End: 22.44%,  PHL - Start: 30.7%   End: 23.38%,   LGA - Start:  18.52%  End: 16.67%

Be Aware: When you enter the following:  (Example Only)   UNIT 1- DROP: 96001/04     ADD: NONE  At the time you are being processed the program may deny Unit 1 (drop the 96001/04) because the percentage is above 15% Open Positions and the F/A' that wants 96001/04 is not legal, in this case, to take 18+00.  However, when system moves to the seniority number of the more junior F/A' and some of his/her units are worked, he/she could be legal for 96001/04.  The system could return to you and drop 96001/04 if such trip is high on the more juniors list.  As such, the more senior F/A' will have his/her units worked out of order.  Like Unit 1 denied, Unit 2 Awarded, Unit 3 Awarded then Unit 1 Awarded.

Additionally, keep in mind that within the same Unit you can drop a trip like 96001/04 and ADD a 2day/03 or 3day/02. Why? As long as the trip you are ADDing touches the Fourth the system will work the Unit without applying the Holiday 15% formula.  Why? Basically you are exchanging one holiday touch for another within the same Unit. Then, after you are awarded a trip that touches the Fourth of July you have the AIL to try to move off the holiday completely.

Secondary Lines: Opens on June 8th at 1800 and closes June 13th at 1800.  If you wish more Company time (to a max of 90) use the Augmentation process from June 15th at 0700 to June 22nd at 1800 or the AIL.  Future Scheduling closes at 1900; however, after closing if you follow the phone prompts a Daily or Midnight Scheduler will help you augment your line. The increased post augmentation value is your new obligation including vacation time.

IT Line Lead-ins – PHL and CLT:  FAI Line (MXP) 5309 has pairing 54016 carrying-over from the June into July.  It is owned by the crew in the June; however, dp2 of pairing 54016 is also placed in July’s line 5309 as "artificial time" to create a legal line. Line 5309 has a published value of 78+05 but when the "artificial block time" of 8+45 (dp2 of 54016) is subtracted the recalculated value of the line will be 69+20 and entered into SAP.

The F/A''s that are awarded line 5309 may come in with the published time less the "artificial block time". In this example, the recalculated value of 69+20 will be entered as an adjusted obligation in CATS.  Or, the affected F/A's could SAP upward to 90 hrs of Company time (including vacation time).  Any time SAP is utilized the increased post SAP line value would be his/her new obligation. Additionally, the AIL may be used to increase the flying time up to a maximum 90 hrs of Company time.  However, in the case of using the AIL this action increases your flying time (projection) but does not adjusted the obligation of 69+20.  Whenever a line lead-in is utilized to bring up the value the provisions on page 9-28 line 24 of the CBA applies.  Note: Use the above methodology to determine the recalculated obligation for any other IT block when a line lead-in pairing is utilized.  Note: Weekend Touch: Whenever a line lead-in (artificial block time) spans a Saturday or/and Sunday such affected flight attendants are NOT required to "touch" for a restricted weekend.
