Dear Members,

On Friday, May 13, The MEC, along with the Implementation Committee had a conference call with the Director of Crew Scheduling regarding two issues:

1. The "approval" feature on the ETB in the drop trip box
2. Reserve Advance Release regarding OFF days

After a two hour discussion on both topics, the MEC voted by a majority to "deactivate" the approval feature in the trip box 5-1 on the ETB. This should be in effect within one week.

Regarding Reserve OFF days and scheduling not permitting Reserves to pick up trips from the ETB on their OFF days, is still under discussion and has not been resolved.

There are two issues pertaining to this disagreement. First, the MEC strongly believes that the Company is misinterpreting the meaning of "release" as it pertains to past practice within the context of our contract. Second, the distinction the company is making between "OFF" days and "off" days (all off days) prevents the reserves the ability to pick up trips from the ETB. As a result of the company limiting/restricting the Reserves from picking up trips on their OFF days, the available "pool" of trips is reduced. This adversely effects the Reserves ability to pick up extra income on their days off, and impacts the lineholders ability to drop trips. This was not AFA's intent when negotiating the ETB, and not what the MEC approved to send out to the membership for ratification.

The MEC has decided to send the Implementation Committee to further discuss a resolution to this outstanding issue with the Company. The Implementation Committee for AFA consists of Perry Hayes, Carol Austin, and Mollie McCarthy. The MEC will ensure that a resolution to this present disagreement will be resolved as quickly as possible with the Company, and once resolved, we will notify you by E-line.
