Restructuring
Update
US Airways management has
created a bit of an uproar among all employees by making its announcement
that it will apply for loan guarantees from the Federal Government, and
may still have to file for bankruptcy reorganization in the future, without
providing any further details to us.
Management has now told us
that it will unveil its business and restructuring plan to the representatives
all of the airline’s labor groups in one big meeting this Thursday, May
16 (the day after the Annual Board Meeting). In this meeting, management
will lay out its overall restructuring plan.
Next week management will
tell what it wants of us in individual meetings with each labor group on
May 21 or 22.
AFA representatives will
attend both meetings and will report to you immediately following.
Management won’t give us
advanced warning of what it will be asking of us until our individual meeting
next week, on May 21 or 22. So this is all there is to report at
this time.
Following the meetings, AFA
MEC President Karen Lascoli will call a special meeting of the entire Master
Executive Council to discuss the information and how we are going to respond
on your behalf.
Management assures us that
the details of the plan have not been made available to any employee groups
to date.
Until the restructuring plan
is unveiled, don’t pass on rumors; quash them. Get the facts. Look
to E-Lines for future updates, visit our website at www.afausairways.org,
or call our Hotline at 800-654-3143. If you have questions, call
your Local Council or email the MEC: answers@afausairways.org. |
