US Airways
says it will apply for Air Transportation Stabilization Board Loan
US Airways filed documents
with the SEC Friday saying it is going to apply for a loan from the Air
Transportation Stabilization Board.
Barring the loan, company
management says "alternative restructuring scenarios in the context of
a judicial reorganization also must be considered."
While the flight attendants
at US Airways fully understand the difficulties facing our airline and
remain committed to providing the same professional service ensuring the
safety and comfort of our passengers that we provide today, we have heard
from previous CEO's this same gloom-and-doom message about our airline
and a plan for "restructuring/bankruptcy."
Obviously, AFA doesn't like
the idea of our airline going into bankruptcy. But until AFA sees
a restructuring plan and has time to analyze it there will be no committal
to anything on the part of the flight attendants.

Flight
Attendants honored in Boston
The Labor Resource Center
of the College of Public and Community Service, at UMass - Boston honored
flight attendants Friday at their 22nd Annual Awards Dinner: "A Celebration
of Exemplary Public Servants".
Pat Friend, International
President of AFA, accepted the award on behalf of all of us. In introductory
remarks and in Pat's acceptance speech, the heroism of the cabin crews
who struggled with the hijackers on September 11th, the bravery that was
exhibited by all those who returned to the skies in the days after the
attacks, and the on-going fight that flight attendants are waging for improved
air safety and security, not just for themselves but for the traveling
public were all cited as reasons for the award.
Proud AFA members of Councils
from AMR, United and US Airways were on hand to witness the event.
The plaque will be displayed at the AFA International Office in Washington,
DC.
Letter
Carriers 10th Annual National Food Drive Today - Saturday, May 11, 2002
National Association of Letter
Carriers (NALC), AFL-CIO 10th Annual National Food Drive Today - Saturday,
May 11, 2002
On the second Saturday in
May, Letter Carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across America
will do more than deliver mail when they walk and drive along their postal
routes. They will also collect the goodness and compassion of their
postal customers participating in the 10th annual National Association
of Letter Carriers National Food Drive who donate nonperishable food donations
left by their mailboxes and in post offices.
Letter Carriers will collect
nonperishable food donations left by mailboxes and in post offices and
deliver them to local community food banks, pantries and shelters.
More than 1,500 local NALC branches in all 50 states and U.S. jurisdictions
are involved in the drive.
The effort by members of
the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), AFL-CIO, and other
volunteers is the largest one-day food drive in the nation. It has
resulted in delivery of more than 462.4 million pounds of donations to
community food banks and pantries over the past nine years.
Co-sponsors of the drive
are the U.S. Postal Service, local United Way chapters, and the AFL-CIO,
along with support from the United Auto Workers/Saturn Partnership Initiative
and Saturn retailers.
In New York City, postal
customers are asked to take donations to their local post offices during
the week of May 6-11. Persons who have any questions about their
community's participation in the drive should ask their letter carrier
or contact their local post office. |
