Released from Duty after Pairing Award/Assignment
Section 11-11 4. of the contract states;
Except in the case of irregular operations declared by the director of Crew
Scheduling or his/her designee, reserves will be released from duty until
check-in upon pairing award or assignment. However, a reserve holding an
award or assignment from Future Crew Scheduling may elect to remain on call
(ROC) for an award or assignment from Daily Scheduling.
Reserves and Irregular Operations
There has been a lot of discussion about Reserves not being released by Future
Scheduling after receiving an award or assignment. If the Reserve is not
released, it must be due to irregular operations. Frequently Reserves have
been told that the "irregular operations" is due to lack of proper staffing in
a base or bases.
The MEC Vice President, Buddy Brannon and myself had a discussion with the
Manager of Flight Attendant Scheduling John Petronzi about this topic. John
told us that staffing does not fall under irregular operations, in other
words, Future Scheduling cannot, NOT release a reserve
because of staffing.
Keep in mind that if you are a Reserve requesting to be released early into
INV of OFF days, this language is different. Section 11-12 5. in the
contract states;
A reserve may request to be released early into scheduled days free from duty
(OFF and/or INV). If coverage is adequate, the Company may grant the request
to be released early into such days (OFF/and or INV). Similarly, depending on
adequacy of coverage, the company may offer to release a reserve early into
such days (OFF and/or INV).
If you are a reserve who finds themselves in a situation where Future
Scheduling will not release you after an award or assignment because of
staffing;
-ask for an explanation of the need for you to remain on call.
-take down the scheduler's name and the time of conversation.
-contact your local LECP immediately!
