Dear Members,

NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE

Negotiations of a single collective bargaining agreement are continuing. The Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) will meet with the Company next week in PHX.

The current Section on the table is the Scheduling Section. On February 24, 2009 management presented a Scheduling counter proposal to the JNC. The company's proposal was completely concessionary in terms of the East contract. The proposal was so far off the mark the JNC told the company we were not going to counter their proposal. The JNC made it clear to the company that if the company wanted a contract they were going to have go back to the drawing board.

The JNC was very clear there were certain cornerstones of our proposal and the two contracts that had to be satisfied or we would be at an impasse. There was no point in continuing to negotiate over a company proposal that severely restricted scheduling flexibility violated seniority and placed rescheduling and reroute provisions almost completely at the company's discretion with very little protection for the Flight Attendants.

After some debate, the Company agreed to rethink their position and develop a new proposal. The JNC and the company agreed, in order to reach an agreement on the proposal, it would be better to jointly discuss our needs rather than have management retreat to their offices and build another poor proposal. The March sessions were more of a "free flow" discussion rather than a meaningless exchange of paper.

The company and the JNC agreed to break the Section into two pieces - Scheduling and Rescheduling/Reroute.

In April the JNC and the company met for two sessions. During the last session the company presented the JNC with a proposal that contained significant movement toward our position. The company will continue their proposal at our next session. Once the JNC receives the complete proposal we will be able to publish more specific details.

The JNC was pleased with what we were presented at our last session and is cautiously optimistic about the next session.

Thank you,

Mike Flores, President
