Dear Members,

CHARGES FILED AGAINST COUNCIL 66 PRESIDENT AND SECRETARY/TREASURER

I would like to take a few minutes of your time to respond to a Council 66 Hotline dated March 6, 2009. You may view the Hotline by going to the Council 66 website at: http://www.afa66.org/

The Hotline detailed the fact that I have filed charges with the AFA International Hearing Board against the Council 66 President and Secretary/Treasurer.

The decision to file the charges was not made lightly or hastily. After careful consideration of the issue that gave rise to the matter I decided to formally submit the charges and several pieces of evidence to the AFA International Hearing Board for the Board's consideration. After reviewing the submission, the Hearing Board decided there was sufficient cause to conduct a hearing to resolve the matter. Once a date is agreed upon, a hearing will be held in accordance with the AFA Constitution and Bylaws. An independent panel of their peers will judge the Council 66 President and Secretary/Treasurer. It is unfortunate the matter has to rise to the level that it has, but the issue in question involves the negotiation of a single collective bargaining agreement for almost seven thousand members.

This will not be settled in the court of public opinion or on chat boards. While others may attempt to do that I will not.

I want to reassure both East and West memberships this process will not get in the way of negotiations. I also want to reassure our West members that the claim made in the Council 66 Hotline that I am using the Hearing Board process to place "control of this council (66), joint negotiations and your future in the hands of the East MEC", is erroneous. No matter what the outcome, until a single agreement is negotiated and ratified and the two Master Executive Councils merge, West Flight Attendants and their interests will continue to be represented by West Flight Attendants.

Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions you may have, but remember, until the charges are heard by the Hearing Board, those charged are innocent until proven guilty and certain specifics will only be discussed during the hearing.

In closing, while I believe this matter is extremely important, I want to let you know it has not interfered with my duties as your President.

Thank you,

Mike Flores, President
The US Airways Master Executive Council
AFA-CWA
