An Important message from
your MEC Safety Chair
It is extremely important that we maintain the FAA MINIMUM
REQUIRED CREW COMPLEMENT (i.e., 3 F/As on 737, 319/320) during
boarding, reboarding and deplaning. Although the MEC does not agree with the current staffing levels, we must adhere to FAR
121.391 & 393 (FAEM 3-8). Safety must take priority over customer service. If you have problems during boarding,
reboarding or deplaning that require a gate agent's assistance,
you must ask your pilots to radio in or they can use the loading
bridge phone. If the pilots are not available, you can explain
to the passenger that you cannot deplane and they can wait or they can go to the gate area to resolve the problem.
The FAA has stated, that if circumstances of any future violation warrant it, a F/A may incur a personal fine - which
can be up to $1,100.00, this includes manual violations.
If you are charged with a flight delay or have questions, please
contact your Local Safety, Health, & Security Committee.
