Flexible Spending Accounts
Clarification
If you have a flexible spending account, and still
need to submit final expenses for Flex-Spend for 2002, you
must contact the Human Resources Department by March 31 through the
1-800 number prompts 1,4,1. You must send all documentation by March
31, 2003 or you will lose the money in this account.
Any questions about this can be directed to the Human Resources
Department.
We apologize for the confusion.

Government Affairs Trainings
FROM: Shane Larson, Director, AFA Government
Affairs
The
Government Affairs Department will be holding a number of regional
trainings in order to encourage greater participation in local
government affairs committees. We will be conducting the first
training session on March 18th in Los Angeles. The other
trainings will take place in Chicago April 8th at the Hyatt
Rosemont and Washington (tentatively April 15.) These
training sessions are replacing our annual Government Affairs
Seminar.
Please use this online
form (http://www.afanet.org/govt_affairs_trng_signup_form.htm)
to RSVP for any of the trainings.
Instead of a Seminar in Washington, this year we will be maximizing
our time spent on Capitol Hill by having a two-day lobby day to
reach as many Congressional offices as possible. The lobby days
are tentatively scheduled for April 29th and 30th. The lobby
days will be open to any individuals who have attended previous
Government Affairs Seminars or one of the regional training
sessions.
These regional trainings will be designed to provide AFA members
with the basic information on why it is important for them to be
involved in the legislative and political process. It will contain
the usual training information that we provide on the first day of
the seminar ("Government 101," how to lobby, overview of
AFA legislative issues, involvement in politics and a PAC overview.)
It is primarily designed for AFA members who have an interest in the
political and legislative process and want to be involved and have
not had any previous experience in this area or who want a
“refresher” on these skills.
The training will take place on one day from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
at an airport hotel, to give people the opportunity to fly in and
out the day of the training, thereby avoiding overnight hotel costs
as much as possible. We will provide a working lunch for the
participants.
By building and maintaining a strong grassroots activist network, we
will achieve great gains with our legislative and political goals.
Please let me know if you have any questions. 1-800-424-2401,
