Dear Members,
For your information, on June 16, Judge Mitchell, approved a portion of the modified Transition Retention/Severance Program (TRP) that was motioned by the Debtors (Company). He gave approval for approximately 1898 employees that were below Senior ranking to receive retention (bonus) and severance. He did not rule to give Retention/severance to the top 23 executives. All of the Labor group's had objected the TRP in Court on May 31, along with the U.S. Court Trustee. Some Members of the MEC attended this hearing.
Labor can claim a small victory.
This ruling allows US Airways to spend nearly $37 million to retain mid level and low level management, but not the $14 million that was earmarked for top senior executives.
The Judge stated that the decision was not lightly made and was sympathetic to the concerns of 23,000 rank and file employees who opposed the measure.
Any salaried worker who loses a job to the merger would receive a minimum of 12 weeks severance up from two weeks in prior contracts. The maximum payment would last a year.
With regard to the senior executives portion of the TRP, the judge held off on approving a new severance package. Any approval for the top senior executives will not be considered until the company receives approval of its bankruptcy reorganization plan.
Trust, this did not bode well in the Executive Suites in CCY yesterday, and they will attempt to try again when they file their "reorganization plan".
Teddy
MEC President

Subject: CBS Message - Health Fairs
US Airways is introducing Employee Health Pays, an initiative intended to further promote employee health and safety at work and at home.
This is just one of many ways US Airways and US Airways Express are showing an ongoing commitment to employees' well-being. As part of this initiative, employee health and safety fairs will be conducted in hub and focus cities. Health and safety presentations for outlying stations will also be scheduled. You will begin to see a new theme emerge with the rollout of our health and safety program: "All Together. Always Safe."
Not only will employees come away from the fair with a wealth of information, but you also could win one of several great prizes. Coupons will be handed out at the entry point to each fair, which vendors will validate at their booths. Coupons validated by all of the vendors will be placed in a drawing for a chance to win prizes throughout the day, and all qualified entries will be eligible for the grand prize drawing of two space positive airline tickets. Employees do not have to be present at the drawing to win, but must show their employee ID when claiming a prize.
