August 2007 - Primary Lines of Flying: The Director of Crew Scheduling, Mike Finn set the maximums in ALL bases at 90 hrs of Company time. The blocking objective was a flight attendant window of 75-90 hrs. However, the way the pilot lines are built (separately constructed by aircraft type) some lines were beneath the minimum window and some over. AFA agreed to publish such lines to give more flight attendants primary blocks. The pilot's scheduling committee and the computer built the primary lines as follows:

Lines Less 75: Flight attendants awarded a line for less than 75:00 can come in with such value. Or, the affected flight attendants could SAP upward to 90 hrs of Company time (including vacation time) to increase his/her flying time for the month. When SAP is utilized the increased post SAP line value would be his/her new obligation including vacation time.

Lines Over 90: Flight attendants awarded lines over 90 can come in with between 85 - 90 hrs, not to include ETB time. Such affected flight attendants may call Crew Scheduling and drop a trip to downward project his/her block or drop via SAP. Further, the AIL may be used to get to between 85-90 hrs. On a non precedent-setting basis an over-fly letter will not apply to a flight attendant that flies his/her awarded line which exceeds 90 hrs if he/she makes no changes to such line.

August SAP: Group 1 (PIT, PHL, and BOS) opens June 23rd at 1800 and closes June 29th at 1800. Group 2 (CLT, DCA, and LGA) opens June 23rd at 1800 and closes Jun 30th at 1800. The SAP non-high option window is MAX of 90 and MIN of 60. The SAP window has been expanded to allow for the oddity of the extra blocking windows shown above.

Secondary Lines for August: The Construction Blocking Minimum will be 70 hours. The minimum has been lower to 70 hours to help create more secondary lines. The Secondary lines will open July 07th at 1800 and close July 12th at 1800. Any Secondary lineholder that wishes more Company time (to a max of 90) may use the Secondary Line Augmentation process which opens on July 14th at 0700 and closes July 22 at 1800 or he/she may use the AIL.

Reserves August: The maximum for the bid month will be 90 hrs; therefore, a reserve may call out of time at 85:01.

August IT Lines With Line Lead-in Pairings - PHL Only: Look at FAI Line 2904 published value of 79+10. You will see pairing 96006 carrying-over (transitioning) from the July bid month into the August bid month. Such pairing is owned by the originating crew in the July bid month; however, duty period 2 of pairing 96006 is also placed in FAI line 2904 for August as "artificial time" to create a legal line. Remember, FAI line 2904 has a published value of 79+10 but when the "artificial block time" of 8+20 (dp2 of 96006) is subtracted the recalculated value of the line will be 70+50.

The flight attendants that are awarded such a line may come in with the published time less the "artificial block time". In this example, the recalculated value of 70+50 will be entered as an adjusted obligation in CATS. Or, the affected flight attendants could SAP upward (max 90 hrs) of Company time (including vacation time) to increase his/her flying time. Any time SAP is utilized the increased post SAP line value, (including vacation time) would be his/her new obligation for that bid month.

Additionally, the AIL may be used to increase the flying time up to a maximum 90 hrs of Company. In the case of using the AIL, this action increases your flying time (projection) but not the adjusted block (2904) obligation of 70+50.

PHL Note: Also, look at other August Lines which have line lead-in pairings like FAI lines: 5313, 5317, 5323, 5329, 5335, 5341,5352, 5361, 5367, 5370, 5376 and 33F lines 2910, 2913, 2914, 2917, 2921. Then use the logic described above to determine the new obligation for the bid month. Further, whenever a line lead-in pairing (artificial block time) spans a Saturday or/and Sunday such affected flight attendants are NOT required to "touch" for a restricted weekend.
