Round 1 is scheduled to open on Friday, Aug. 22nd at 1800 ET and close on Wednesday, Sept. 24th at 1800 ET.  Please refer to Page 7-1 of the FA Agreement for the 2009 Vacation Accrual chart, your accrual is based on the column effective 01/01/09.  The number of days listed is the maximum number of days that you can accrue for 2009 based on your Longevity, but does not include days from your Excess Days Bank, if applicable. Your accruals will not be available in Catcrew until the bid opens on August 22nd. In addition, if you were on an UNPAID leave of absence leave during 2008, your 2009 Accrual may be prorated depending on the length of your UNPAID leave.

Company Error In Processing Union Dues Increase

As you know, at last years AFA Board of Directors (BOD) meeting, the AFA Board of Directors, (all Local Executive Council Presidents from all AFA represented carriers) voted not to opt out of the merger with CWA. The decision meant that for the first time in 14 years our dues would be increased as a result of the merger agreement with CWA. The following link will take to you to an October 10, 2007 Eline that explained the various scenarios surrounding the decision the Local Executive Council Presidents were faced with at the 2007 BOD meeting. http://www.afausairways.org/Eline/oct10_07.htm

The dues increase took effect June 2008. East Flight Attendant AFA dues are paid out of the “15th pay check. The AFA notified the Company in a timely manner of the increase and was assured the programming was in place to reflect the increase on the July 15 pay check. That did not happen and the July 15th pay check included a dues charge for $39.00. Therefore, the $4 increase that should have been reflected in a $43.00 dues charge on the July 15, 2008 paycheck will be added to the August 15, 2008 paycheck. Dues for the August 15, 2008 paycheck will be for a total of $47.00.

The program has been corrected and beginning with the September 15, 2008 paycheck the dues payment will be $43.00. The error only occurred on East Flight Attendant pay checks. The West Flight Attendants’ were correctly charged dues in the amount of $43.00.

The Company issued the following CBS message regarding their error.

Date: Wednesday, 23 July 2008 19:30 ET
To: Emc2-News-c
From: KINSEY.P
Subject: Union Dues Increase

The AFA notified the Company and all Flight Attendants of a scheduled
increase to the monthly union dues. The announcement included a request
to the Company to change the monthly union dues deductions from $39.00
to $43.00 effective June 1st, 2008. The first increase in union dues
should have occurred on the July 15th paycheck; however, the Company
failed to make the change in the payroll system to account for the increase.

To rectify this situation, the additional $4.00 will be deducted from each
F/A's paycheck on August 15th, along with the new monthly dues amount of
$43.00. The total will be in the amount of $47.00. The September 15th
paycheck will return to the standard dues amount of $43.00.

We apologize to the AFA and the Flight Attendants for this error.

Thank you,

Mike Flores, President
The US Airways Master Executive Council
AFA-CWA
